  • Patent number: 4452487
Abstract: An operatory stool has a seat supported upon a post-like member extending upward from a caster-supported base, the seat having a short post extending upward from an edge of the seat and supports a horizontal curved arm for rotation about the axis of the post. Inter-engageable position control members are mounted respectively on the arm and upper end of the post and are operable for separation by raising the arm a short distance to disengage them, then rotate the arm about the axis of the post, and then release the arm to re-establish engagement of the position control members which are maintained in engagement by a compression spring. A one-way clutch also is mounted between the arm and post to permit rotation of the arm a limited distance in one direction only to augment the pivotal movement of the arm permitted by disengagement of the position control members.

  • Patent number: 4413867
Abstract: A storage cabinet comprising a plurality of identical shell-like sections and similar complementary slidable drawers, each section comprising a molded plastic planar rectangular panel integral along three sides with similar edges of a pair of sidewalls and a rear wall to form a continuous U-shaped wall configuration and a front opening similar in area to the rear wall. In use, the sections are stacked vertically upon each other with the planar panel uppermost and the front openings facing a common front plane except the lowermost section which has the rear wall disposed in said plane to form a base member and drawers of complementary size are slidably supported in all sections except the bottom one. Connecting screws extend between the sidewalls of adjacent sections to connect all sections into a unitary cabinet.

  • Patent number: 4411625
Abstract: Dental restorative composition are provided having improved color stability. According to a preferred embodiment, such compositions comprise a blend of a major proportion of inorganic, particulate filler, and a minor proportion of a resin component comprising a binder resin, a diluent monomer and a three part photosensitizing system comprising an alpha diketone, an amine reducing agent, and a benzoin alkyl ether. The superior color stability and other properties of restorative compositions of this invention are believed to result from synergistic interactions among the components of the sensitizing system.

  • Patent number: 4385344
Abstract: There is provided a device for efficient production of light in the low visible range for photo-curing materials, the device being particularly adapted for dental applications. The efficient light source comprises a tungsten halogen lamp with a concentrating reflector which reflects visible light and passes middle and far infrared wavelengths. A filter system is provided comprising a dichroic heat reflecting filter which efficiently passes light from 400 to 700 nm and reflects energy in the visible red and near infrared wavelengths back to the lamp envelope, thus enhancing lamp halogen cycle efficiency. The dichroic heat reflecting filter is followed by a dielectric filter which provides a high efficiency bandpass at the desired visible range. A highly efficient fiber optic light guide is positioned to receive the focused and filtered light and to transmit it to a reduced surface light applying tip at the end of a handpiece.

  • Patent number: 4344756
Abstract: A water recycling unit and system for dental operatories for use to supply operating priming water to liquid seal type vacuum pumps and including a conduit connectable to a municipal water supply, a solenoid valve in said conduit operated by a timer to open the valve for very short intervals periodically to furnish fresh makeup water to an air-water separator mounted above the level of the pumps and provided with a discharge to drain that is regulated to maintain a constant supply of contaminated water withdrawn from a patient's mouth and a small amount of the makeup water to comprise priming water delivered to the vacuum pump by gravity flow. The only moving element in the basic system is the solenoid valve and it only passes fresh municipal water free of impurities to insure complete closing of the valve and thereby obviate possible partial opening due to impurities lodged between the valve and its seat.

  • Patent number: 4331149
Abstract: A radio-frequency electrosurgical device which includes an active electrode, a passive electrode, and a radio-frequency generator. The radio-frequency generator induces a radio-frequency potential on a primary winding of an isolation transformer. The secondary winding of the isolation transformer powers the active electrode. One end of the second winding of the isolation transformer is coupled to a return lead connected to the passive electrode and also is coupled to ground through a primary winding of a second transformer. If the passive electrode is disconnected from the return line, there can be an alternate radio-frequency current return path to ground, and a potential is developed across the primary winding of the second transformer. This potential is used to energize a relay to actuate an alarm and to disable the radio-frequency generator if the passive electrode becomes disconnected.

  • Patent number: 4251211
Abstract: This invention pertains to a dental operatory console system including one or more fluid control valves for driving air and water to be delivered to dental handpieces supported for ready removal from a pivoted holder to provide adjustable angular positioning of the handpiece, one of such pivoted holders being adjacent each control valve and including a lockout for the valve plunger when the handpiece is removed from the holder, such as when changing burs, to prevent accidental operation of the air and water valve for delivery to the handpiece. The pivoted holder is readily removable for servicing the valve and the fluid circuit for water and air between a source of the same and a plurality of handpieces in the console includes shuttle valves to permit the use of a single air pressure gage for the system rather than a gage for each handpiece as in conventional multiple-handpiece consoles.
