  • Patent number: 9314282
Abstract: A femoral instrument for use in the intramedullary canal is described and includes an intramedullary rod having a tip at a free end. A body is attached to the intramedullary rod and has a face with a bone abutting portion. A centralizer mechanism is located within the rod and is operable to deploy and retract a plurality of members to engage and disengage an inner surface of the intramedullary canal. The length of the intramedullary rod from the tip to the face of the body is less than 30 cm. The instrument can also include an angular adjustment mechanism. The angular adjustment mechanism can have a plurality of formations and can be rotated about the longitudinal axis of the intramedullary rod to present at least a one of the formations to abut a portion of the body to define the relative angle between the body and the intramedullary rod.

  • Patent number: 9295483
Abstract: A patella drill guide includes a base portion rotatably mounted on a bone-gripping component. A trial portion with a contoured articulation surface is above the base portion. The base portion and trial portion have aligned drill guide bores. The base portion and trial portion can be rotated together on the bone-gripping component to optimize the positions of the drill guide bores with respect to the patella surface, thereby optimizing the locations of the mounting pegs of the patella implant component on the patella to optimize the orientation of the patella implant component. The base and the bone-gripping component may be unitary so that the entire assembly rotates on the patella about the central longitudinal axis of the bone-gripping component.

  • Patent number: 9271739
Abstract: A surgical instrument, for example a cutting block for use in knee surgery, comprises a mounting surface defining at least one opening for receiving a mounting projection. The mounting surface further defines a blind recess which extends linearly from the at least one opening. The blind recess may extend to an edge of the mounting surface. A system including a surgical instrument and one or more mounting projections is also disclosed. The blind recess can be used as a track to guide a projection to an opening, increasing the area of the instrument that can be used to locate the projection in the correct position. The recess acts as a guide for the projection to enter the opening by providing tactile feedback to guide the projection towards the opening. If the recess also extends to the edge of the instrument, the recess may be visible more easily when the surgeon is installing the instrument providing visual as well as tactile feedback.
