Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting block for use in preparing a bone during orthopaedic surgery. The cutting block comprises a bone attachment face, and a front face opposing the bone attachment face. The cutting block further comprises at least a first group of bone pin holes, each hole being configured for removable receipt of a bone pin. The first group of pin holes includes at least two bone pin holes that extend between the bone attachment face and the front face. The at least two bone pin holes extend parallel to each other in an anterior-posterior direction. The at least two bone pin holes are offset from each other in at least one of a superior-inferior direction or a medial-lateral direction. The at least two bone pin holes are interconnected.
Abstract: A surgical kit and method for performing a controlled resection of the neck of a femur during a hip replacement procedure. The kit includes a mounting portion. The mounting portion includes guide holes for inserting guide pins into the femoral head while the mounting portion is located on an anterior aspect of the femoral head. The kit also includes a body portion connected to the mounting portion. The body portion includes an opening for mounting the body portion on an intramedullary pin. The kit also includes a resection guide including guide holes having the same layout as the guide holes of the mounting portion, to allow the resection guide to be mounted on the anterior aspect of the femoral head with the guide pins inserted into the femoral head for positioning a resection plane indicator of the resection guide with respect to the neck of the femur.
Abstract: A method of assembling an orthopaedic surgical instrument may include selecting a surgical reamer for use in resecting a portion of a patient's bone. The method may also include aligning an outer sleeve of a stem trial component with a distal end of a shaft of the surgical reamer. The method may also include advancing the outer sleeve into engagement with the distal end of the reamer shaft. The method may also include advancing a central rod of the stem trial component along a passageway defined in the outer sleeve into engagement with the distal end of the reamer shaft. The method may also include threading the central rod into the distal end of the reamer shaft to couple the stem trial component to the surgical reamer for use in resecting the portion of the patient's bone.

Abstract: A trial liner for use in a hip arthroplasty surgical procedure is disclosed. The trial liner includes a rim and a semi-hemispherical body attached to the rim. The semi-hemispherical body includes a concave inner wall extending inwardly from the rim to define a cavity, a convex outer wall extending from the rim opposite the inner wall, and an interior wall extending between the inner wall and the outer wall and defining an opening at an apex of the semi-hemispherical body. The semi-hemispherical body is adapted to deflect and modify the opening, when pressed against a head of a screw, to accept the head of the screw within the opening. A system that includes the trial liner and the screw, and a method for using the system in a surgical procedure, are also disclosed.

Abstract: A total knee implant prosthesis is disclosed. The total knee implant prosthesis includes a tibial component including a pair of bearing surfaces and a post positioned between the bearing surfaces, and a femoral component configured to rotate relative to the tibial component. The femoral component includes a pair of condyles sized and shaped to articulate on the bearing surfaces and a cam positioned between the pair of condyles. The cam engages the post at a first contact point when the femoral component is at 0 degrees of flexion and engages the post at a second contact point located lateral of the first contact point when the femoral component is at a first degree of flexion greater than 0 degrees. The cam is disengaged from the post when the femoral component is at a second degree of flexion greater than the first degree of flexion.
