  • Patent number: 10441271
Abstract: A medical implement particularly useful in arthroscopic surgery, includes: a handle having a proximal end configured for manual gripping by a user, a distal end for manipulation during the surgery, an internal passageway extending through the handle from the proximal end to the distal end thereof, and a longitudinally-extending slot extending longitudinally through the handle from its outer surface to the passageway for side-loading the handle with a manipulatable member to be manipulated during surgery. A shield is located within the passageway in the handle. The shield is secured along one edge to the inner surface of handle defining the passageway, and includes an elastic section normally covering the longitudinally-extending slot. The elastic section of the shield is yieldable to permit side-loading of the manipulatable member into the passageway, but to prevent a side-loaded manipulatable member from passing outwardly from the passageway.

  • Publication number: 20190117213
Abstract: Methods and devices for fixation of soft tissue to bone are provided. In one embodiment, a suture anchor is provided having an elongate cylindrical body with proximal and distal ends and an inner lumen extending therethrough. The elongate body can be configured so that upon partial insertion into a bone hole, it is securely anchored within the bone hole and a suture extending through the inner lumen is freely slidable. It can also configured so that, upon further insertion into the bone hole, at least a portion of the elongate body compresses to lock the suture within the inner lumen such that the suture is prevented from sliding. In another embodiment, a suture anchor is provided having arms that have an open position for receiving a suture therebetween, and a closed position in which the suture is retained but allowed to slide freely.

  • Patent number: 10182809
Abstract: A suture anchor comprises a tubular body having an axial bore therethrough and having one or more purchase enhancements on an exterior surface of the body adapted to enhance purchase of the body within a bone hole, such as threads. A lateral port passes through the body from the bore to the exterior surface and is formed of a slot entering the body from its proximal end. A length of suture for attaching soft tissue to bone passes down along the exterior surface over the one or more purchase enhancements, over a distal end of the body, up into the bore through and then back out of the bore and up along the exterior surface over the one or more purchase enhancements.

  • Publication number: 20180289410
Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for placing surgical guide pins, reamers, and ligament grafts into bone. In one exemplary embodiment, the method can include advancing a guide pin that includes a proximal rigid portion and a flexible distal portion. The rigid proximal portion can be advanced into a femoral tunnel such that the flexible distal portion extends across an intra-articular space. The flexible portion of the guide pin can be bent to adjust a distance between the guide pin and articular cartilage. A cannulated reamer can be advanced over the flexible portion of the guide pin and the reamer can be manipulated to avoid contact with the articular cartilage in the intra-articular space. A ligament graft can be secured in the femoral tunnel created by the guide pin and the reamer.

  • Patent number: 9855030
Abstract: A suture anchor is disclosed having an outer body with an axial bore which receives and inner body for rotation. Suture passes between the inner body and outer body and rotation of the inner body wraps the suture thereabout locking the suture thereto. Rotation of the inner body also effects radial expansion of at least a portion of the outer body to engage to anchor into a bone hole.

  • Patent number: 9855133
Abstract: A graft retention device has an elongated body with a first and second ends and a midpoint therebetween. A pair of elongated slots formed through the body defines a tang therebetween. A graft retention loop is disposed over the tang and is slidable therealong. A trailing line connects to the body adjacent the slots and extends therefrom through the graft retention loop toward the first end. Tension applied to the trailing line thus tends to urge the graft retention loop away from the first end and toward the midpoint.

  • Patent number: 9775605
Abstract: A suture anchor has a tubular body having an axial bore therethrough with one or more purchase enhancements on an exterior surface of the body adapted to enhance purchase of the body within a bone hole. These are preferably screw threads. A distal nose of the suture body has a smooth exterior surface. A length of suture passes down along the exterior surface over the purchase enhancements, over the distal nose, and up into the bore. The smooth exterior surface of the distal nose allows tension of the suture to be held by the engagement of the nose within the bone hole thus making it easier to obtain proper tension as the remaining portion is engaged into the bone hole to provide final fixation.

  • Patent number: 9717492
Abstract: A suture anchor driver has an elongated shaft, a handle at a proximal end of the shaft an anchor engagement at a distal end of the shaft and a clutch between the handle and the shaft. The clutch includes a slot for frictionally engaging a suture an engagement with the shaft and an engagement with the handle. The engagement with the shaft and the engagement with the handle are located with respect to one another such that driving torque applied to the handle urges open the slot to release its frictional engagement of the suture.
