  • Patent number: 4517514
Abstract: A magnetically suspended magnetic transducer has a first magnetic assembly including a first magnetizable housing with a bottom and upstanding walls defining an interior volume, a pair of opposed, mutually spaced magnets with a pole piece in between, and a coil in the interior volume in flux cutting relationship with the additive magnetic fields generated by the magnetic pair. The second assembly is magnetically suspended above the first assembly and includes a second housing with a closed top and downwardly depending side walls partially surrounding the side walls of the first housing, an additional magnet secured to the inner top surface in opposing magnetic relation to the closest one of the pair of magnets in the first assembly so that the magnetic forces urge the second housing away from the first. A mass secured within the second housing provides a weight of sufficient magnitude to counteract the magnetic force of repulsion tending to separate the two assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4471303
Abstract: A flexural vibration sensor including a housing fabricated from a magnetizable material for providing an internal magnetic path and having a coupling surface for contact with an associated structural member; electrically conductive coil means positioned within the housing; and means for generating a magnetic field within the internal magnetic path, through the coil means and along the coupling surface in the region exterior to the housing so that variations in the strength of that portion of the magnetic field in the region exterior to the housing caused by flexural vibration of the associated structural member when the sensor is attached thereto are sensed by the electrically conductive coil means and manifested by a variable electrical signal.

  • Patent number: 4461463
Abstract: Apparatus for providing a surface angularly adjustable with respect to a reference surface includes a substantially spherical ferromagnetic mount having a flattened surface thereon, an annular-shaped magnet disposed between the mount and the reference surface for magnetically holding the mount in a desired position with respect to the reference surface, and a series of openings formed in the spherical ferromagnetic mount into which rods may be inserted and the outwardly extending end thereof adjusted to thereby adjust the angular orientation of the surface on the sphere with respect to the reference surface.

  • Patent number: 4446733
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for inducing stresses in solid materials in such a manner as to find application to stress relieving and fatigue testing procedures, and a procedure of non-destructively testing structural elements after they are in place within a larger structure. The present invention utilizes the higher resonant modes of vibration of the workpiece or structure undergoing treatment or testing to induce stress waves having maximum moment at many locations distributed over the surface.
