  • Patent number: 4766677
Abstract: A system is provided for vapor phase soldering of articles, in a hot vapor, in which the articles are preheated prior to being delivered to a vapor zone, to raise the temperature of the wires or other contact points that are to be soldered together, to be compatible. Techniques are employed to prevent escape of the soldering vapor, including controlled opening of inlet and outlet closures to the system, sloped inlet and outlet tunnels, heated inlet and outlet zones, the condensation of vapor at transition locations and an air screen or air shield system just inside the openable closures to the system. A control of the locations of condensation of the vapors is provided, with delivery of the condensate for re-use. A condensate flash tray is provided in the system for substantially immediate re-vaporization of some of the condensate. An electric fluid boil system and a still are provided.

  • Patent number: 4531978
Abstract: A method for forming a chromate conversion coating on aluminum surfaces is described in which an aluminum surface is immersed in an aqueous acidic solution containing hexavalent chromium and the aluminum surface and the solution are subjected to ultrasonic energy thus reducing the need for including environmentally harmful accelerator components in said solution.

  • Patent number: 4262057
Abstract: A dry film metal drawing compound is described which is formed by dipping or otherwise coating metal drawing stock with an aqueous soap-borate composition having a pH in the range of from about 7.6 to less than about 9.0. The solution is allowed to dry on the workpiece and then said workpiece is drawn conventionally. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the soap-borate composition is prepared by admixture with a borate compound selected from the group consisting of potassium pentaborate, ammonium pentaborate and sodium octaborate in neutral pH water of solution.

  • Patent number: 4130674
Abstract: A process is described wherein oversprayed organic coatings are controlled in an aqueous spray booth system by adding to the water spray supply an effective amount of a mixture of (1) a long chain surface active nitrogen derivative and (2) at least one member selected from the class of polyvalent water soluble or dispersible metal salts, nonionic high molecular weight polymers, anionic high molecular weight polymers, or a blend of nonionic and anionic high molecular weight polymers. The mixture is added to the water in the proportions of from about 0.05% by weight to 2% by weight of the solution. The method, which works with solvent-borne coatings and water-borne coatings results in rendering the organic coatings non-sticky, non-tacky and separable as a readily handled sludge.

  • Patent number: 4055196
Abstract: An immersion type metal degreaser for use with relatively low boiling fluorocarbon solvents or azeotropes thereof in which liquid solvent is boiled and vaporized in the degreaser by a heater immersed in liquid solvent which constitutes the condenser section of a compression-expansion refrigeration system and in which solvent vapors within the metal degreaser are confined within the degreaser by being cooled and condensed by means constituting the evaporator section of the refrigeration system. An adjunct of the cooling system maintains a portion of the liquid solvent within which ultrasonic units are immersed at the optimum temperature thereof.
