  • Patent number: 4718243
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of operating a heat pump system in an absorption heat pump mode and/or boiler heating mode. According to this method, a solution of a refrigerant in a solvent is heated in a boiler, the evaporated refrigerant is delivered either directly to an absorber through a condenser, a throttle and an evaporator when the system is operated in the heat pump mode, or directly to an absorber when the system is in the boiler heating mode. The refrigerant is combined with the solvent that is drawn, low in refrigerant, from the boiler. The rich solution thus obtained is redirected to the boiler. To shut down the system, the heating of the boiler is turned off.

  • Patent number: 4717309
Abstract: The specimen (P) can be turned about each of three axes (A, B and C) by rtion of the input shaft (10). The apparatus exhibits three brackets (H1, H2, H3) mounted on each other in the manner of a cardan joint and supported by the frame (GR). The first bracket (H1) is fixed on the frame (GR) via a clutch coupling (K1). Additional couplings (K2 and K3) connect the second bracket (H2) to the first bracket (H1) and the third bracket (H3) to the second bracket (H2). Of the three couplings, only one is ever released, while the two others are engaged. In this manner the specimen (P) can describe a movement about each of the three axes by rotation of the single input shaft (10).

  • Patent number: 4710809
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the representation of video image sequences or scenes with a relative movement between a pick-up sensor and the viewed scene, such scenes being transmitted at reduced frame rate. By interpolation and/or extrapolation on the basis of two transmitted frames intermediate frames are generated on the receiving end of the transmission line and inserted into the transmitted frame sequence. The positions of image points (pels) which are identical in the two transmitted images are determined from the relationship of the pel positions for at least two identical pels on different vertical and horizontal coordinates in each of the two transmitted frames. Before reconstruction of the intermediate frames the mean brightness values for limited picture areas which represent the environment of at least one of the corresponding pels in two successive transmitted frames are determined.

  • Patent number: 4698014
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the combustion or gasification of highly viscous nd/or suspended fuel in a burner flame. The fuel is introduced, in a nozzle, and in the form of a continuous, thin, annular layer, into a stream of atomizing medium, with the aid of which the fuel is atomized. The fuel is guided onto the inner wall of the nozzle as a continuous film at a velocity that is low with regard to wear action. The fuel is atomized at a terminal portion of the nozzle that has a knife-edge configuration. The fuel and the atomizing medium stream that flows within the annular film discharge at a minor resonant velocity.

  • Patent number: 4677568
Abstract: There is provided a process and system for the memory-saving programming of he motional actions of a robot wherein a reference course is recorded first in the form of samples, which are then stored. For reducing the storage space, the recorded and stored samples are transformed into a Fourier matrix .sub.0 C by means of a Fourier analysis. Said matrix is then filed in a memory. From this Fourier matrix .sub.0 C, it is possible to derive Fourier matrices for courses with the same configuration, but with any desired position and orientation solely by a linear transformation of the coordinates in the form of a Fourier matrix .sub.1 C. With the help of the dynamical model of the robot used, the derived Fourier matrix .sub.1 C can be modified with adjustment to the desired speed, so as to compensate for the dynamical errors in the motional actions of the robot.

  • Patent number: 4657391
Abstract: A ring laser particularly for a ring laser type of gyro in which the ring ser includes three corner mirrors and a separate gas discharge tube arranged in a recess in a block. The gas discharge tube is mounted on the block longitudinally of the beam path by at least one piezo electric drive. The modulation amplitude of the separated beam portion is measured by a control circuit and is converted into a high voltage adjustment signal for the drive as a function of the modulation amplitude. Two drives may be spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the gas discharge tube and these can be controlled independently of each other. Although the beam path may be displaced as a result of thermal expansion and/or bending of the block, the gas discharge tube may be kept exactly coaxial with the beam which traverses it.

  • Patent number: 4655392
Abstract: A steam-generator control method is proposed for controlling the mass flows f an oxidant and a fuel which are supplied for combustion. In order to control the flows at stoichiometric ratios with a required accuracy, the controlled variables are established by the measurements of the mass flows and their comparison with theoretically predetermined stoichiometric ratios. Measurement errors are defined continuously through a combustion-gas analysis, conducted by means of a probe after the combustion. The errors are used for the correction of the controlled variables. The time constant of the correction is smaller than the time constant of dynamic changes of the errors.

  • Patent number: 4652130
Abstract: In the inventive interferometers, based on the principle of Michelson, an teration of pathlength is obtained through rotation of a movable mirror, where this mirror is a retroreflector; or an eccentricaly rotating retroreflector laterally deviates a non centric, impinging beam more or less, depending on the angular position of the retroreflector and directs said beam through a fixed wedge of refractive material, whose index of refraction is different from the index of refraction of air. Hence with the inventive interferometers no mechanical back and forth movement of a mirror or wedge is performed. Interferometers of this kind can be used for spectroscopy in a wide region of the electromagnetic spectrum; examples are the spectral analysis in chemistry or the astronomy (for instance in the infrared region).

  • Patent number: 4635198
Abstract: Sound heads (SK1 to SK3) are fixed, distributed peripherally, on the part of the body, e.g. an arm or leg. Each of the sound heads is able to transmit ultrasonic signals along a measuring section (MS1 to MS3) leading to another sound head, which signals are received by the other sound head. The sound heads can consist of angularly arranged sound members (14). In this way, all three sides of a polygon formed by the sound heads are measured, from which measurements the surface area of the polygon can be determined.
