Abstract: In order to utilise wastes or residues containing iron in the oxide form and/or iron in the metallic form and/or containing carbon (38,25,34), a process is used with which molten pig iron (16) or steel preliminary products can be produced, iron ore (4) being reduced to sponge iron in a direct reduction zone (2), the sponge iron being melted in a melting-gasification zone (15) with the supply of carbon-containing material (29) with gasification of the carbon-containing material (29) to reducing gas, and the reducing gas is fed into the direct reduction zone (2), reacted there and drawn off as top gas.

Abstract: A process for the direct production of sponge iron particles and liquid pig iron from lump iron ore is described, in which the iron ore is reduced as a loose bed in a direct reduction unit by means of hot reducing gases to sponge iron and is subsequently melted in a melting gasifier by means of the introduced carbon and blown in oxygen-containing gas, accompanied by the production of reducing gas. At least part of the reducing gas, after cooling to the temperature necessary for reduction, is introduced into the reduction zone of the direct reduction unit. A considerable part of the carbon and reducing gas is provided by a mixture of hydrocarbon-containing plastic and petroleum coke and/or coke (fines). The reducing gases are primarily at least partly obtained by cracking from the plastic and by thermal gasification from the coke.
Abstract: A process for recycling hot dust from a gasifier or melt-down gasifier by means of a hot gas cyclone separator integrated into a pipe system is described, together with the associated apparatus. The hot dust from the hot gas cyclone separator is supplied by means of a lock system to a burner in order to overcome the pressure difference between the hot gas cyclone separator and the melt-down gasifier. By means of the lock system the dust is supplied from a lower pressure zone to a higher pressure zone. The dust to be recycled comprises coke or a mixture of coke and iron particles.
