Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring an analyte comprises a urethral catheter (1), which has positioning means (13) for positioning the catheter within the urethra, and a sensor (19). In use the sensor (19) is held in close proximity to a urethral wall U, permitting monitoring of the analyte level in the urethral wall thereby providing information which may be useful in evaluation of the vita conditions of a patient.
Abstract: A cranial bolt for connecting one or more elongate, flexible members such as catheters with the interior of the skull, wherein the bolt includes a hollow shank having one threaded end and a second end opposite the threaded end for receiving one or more elongate members. Each member is retained in the second end and communicates with a passageway in the shank extending to the threaded end.

Abstract: A method of positioning a sensor in a human or animal body tissue comprising the steps of: i. providing a flexible stylet capable of penetrating the tissue, ii. providing flexible tubing having a bore capable of receiving separately the stylet and the probe; iii. positioning the stylet received in the tubing in the tissue; iv. removing the stylet; v. inserting the probe in the bore of the tubing; and vi. removing the tubing.
