Abstract: A method and apparatus for diagnosing the presence and extent of halitosis activity are disclosed. A method includes assaying for the presence of sulfides on the surface of a subject's tongue in order to determine the concentrations of sulfides in the fluids.
Abstract: A probe for diagnosing periodontal disease includes a sulfide responsive measuring electrode and a reference electrode joined by a salt bridge. The reference electrode is maintained in a saturated salt environment. The probe may include a sound generation for providing an auditory indication of sulfide concentration.
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for diagnosing the presence and extent of disease activity within a periodontal pocket. A dual electrode probe having a first, working silver electrode and a second, reference silver/silver chloride electrode is inserted into the pocket to take data measurements of the electrochemical potential between the electrodes while they are immersed in the fluid contained in the periodontal sulcus. The strength of the potential reflects the amount of sulfides within the sulcus fluid and reflects the presence and extent of disease therewithin.
