Publication number: 20140260868Abstract: A slitting machine having at least two knife holders, with a respective knife rotatably mounted on each knife holder. Individually activatable electromagnetic sensors are disposed on the knife holders, and a single magnetostrictive rod extends through a portion of all of the electromagnetic sensors. A unit processes interrogations by the rod of activated ones of the electromagnetic sensors for indicating the position of at least one of the knife holders relative to the rod.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: Dienes Corporation USAInventor: Charlie Comeau

Publication number: 20120132046Abstract: A cutting arrangement for longitudinally cutting material includes two blades disposed across from one another and which cooperate during cutting. Each blade is embodied as a circular blade having a sharp cutting edge and supported by an adjusting or placement mechanism. During the cutting process, the circular blades are positioned by the adjusting or placement mechanisms so that the cutting edges overlap one another to form an overlap zone, the center of which coincides with the middle of the material that is to be cut. An adaptive control assembly includes individual drive motors for driving each blade and enables constant side load force control for each blade, such that side load pressures are adjustable in response to changes in web sped, web tension, and blade condition in real time. Automatic blade diameter sensors calculate the zero point of the cut, determine the appropriate blade speed and automatically set the overlap.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2010Publication date: May 31, 2012Applicant: Dienes Corporation-USAInventor: Rudolf Supe-Dienes

Publication number: 20120103160Abstract: A crush cut blade assembly comprising an axle pin adapted to be mounted in a holder and provided with a first set of two separate vee tracks disposed on a radially outer periphery of the axle pin; a blade disposed radially outwardly of, and concentrically about, the axle pin and provided with a second set of two separate vee tracks disposed on a radially inner periphery of the blade, the vee tracks of the blade being respectively disposed across from the vee tracks of the axle pin such that the vee tracks of the first set of vee tracks are respectively aligned with the vee tracks of the second set of vee tracks; and bearing balls disposed between the axle pin and the blade in both of the aligned vee tracks of the axle pin and of the blade.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2010Publication date: May 3, 2012Applicant: Dienes Corporation USAInventors: Bill Shea, Robert Keskula

Publication number: 20100162871Abstract: A slitting machine with an upper blade arrangement having a plurality of blade holders supported on a cross beam via associated position-securing mechanisms. Each blade holder is provided with a lowering device and a cutter head for a circular blade supported thereon, each cutter head being carried by the lowering device. Each circular blade is adapted to overlap a blade edge of a lower blade to form a cutting point disposed on the entry side of the material that is to be cut. A device is provided for adjusting a horizontally measured distance of the cutting point of the circular blade from the cross beam.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2009Publication date: July 1, 2010Applicant: Dienes CorporationInventor: Rudolf Supe-Dienes

Patent number: 6227092Abstract: A motor driven slitting knife assembly is provided with a quick disconnect arrangement for permitting rapid replacement of a slitting knife. The motor is provided with a rotatable hub having a radially extending flange. A slitting knife is mounted on one side of the flange and a piston and cylinder assembly is mounted on an opposite side of the flange. A plurality of headed bolts are mounted on the piston and extend through elongated slots in the slitting knife. The elongated slots have an enlarged end and a smaller end whereby, upon rotation of the knife in one direction with the heads of the bolts out of engagement with the knife, the knife may be removed over the heads of the bolts and upon rotation of the knife in the opposite direction, the heads can engage the knife upon movement of the headed bolts to clamp the knife against the flange for rotation therewith.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1999Date of Patent: May 8, 2001Assignee: Dienes CorporationInventors: Leonard Ivel, Kenneth Stidsen, Jr.
