  • Patent number: 4260337
Abstract: A drive shaft (17) is rotatably supported in a cylinder (12) by means of bearings (28), (29). A swash plate (24) fixed to the shaft (17) causes a piston (33) to reciprocate in a bore (18), (23) of the cylinder (12) upon rotation of the drive shaft (17) and swash plate (24). The piston (33), in combination with inlet (113) and outlet (58) valves communicating with the cylinder bore (18), (23) cause refrigerant fluid or the like to be compressively displaced through the bore (18), (23) and compressor (11). Passageways (123), (124) connect the cylinder bore (18), (23) to the bearings (28), (29) in such a manner that lubricant oil entrained in the refrigerant is forced by refrigerant pressure in the bore (18), (23) through the passageways (123), (124) to positively lubricate the bearings (28), (29 ) even during startup of the compressor (11).

  • Patent number: 4200075
Abstract: A line type fuel injection pump comprises a plurality of fuel injection pumps provided in a number one greater than the number of cylinders in an internal combustion engine. The extra injection pump constitutes a component of a liquid abutment regulator means and has an outlet connected to a control inlet of a modulator valve which modulates the supply pressure to the fuel injection pumps as a function of engine speed. A hydraulic actuator varies the amount of fuel injected into the engine in accordance with the supply pressure and may act in combination with a centrifugal governor.

  • Patent number: 4194607
Abstract: Input and output members and a clutch disc are coaxially rotatable relative to each other, the clutch disc being frictionally engageable with the input member. A coil-wound spring is wound around the input member and connected at its ends to the clutch disc and output member. An electromagnetic coil may be energized to attract the clutch disc into frictional engagement with the input member, causing the coil-wound spring to tightly wind around the input member and drivably connect the input member to the output member. A spring means quickly and smoothly disengages the clutch disc from the input member when the coil is de-energized. A plurality of pins extending through the output member and the clutch disc ensure parallel movement of the clutch disc toward and away from the input member.

  • Patent number: 4174931
Abstract: A rotary compressor comprises a cylinder in which a rotor is eccentrically disposed. A plurality of generally rectangular, radially extending vanes are slidably disposed in slots in the rotor and sealingly engage the inner wall of the cylinder. Rotation of the rotor and vanes causes compression of refrigerant gas or the like trapped between adjacent vanes and discharge of the gas from the compressor. The radially outer edges of the vanes which engage the cylinder wall are curved, and the leading and trailing surfaces near the radially outer edges of the vanes are cut away to prevent sticking of the vanes in the slots due to deformation of the edges of the vanes after an extended period of use.

  • Patent number: 4169444
Abstract: A fuel supply pump supplies fuel from a fuel reservoir to a fuel injection pump which comprises a piston for injecting fuel from a fuel injection nozzle into an internal combustion engine. The piston is reciprocated for fuel injection by an engine driven rotary cam. The fuel injection pump further comprises a fuel control sleeve which is positioned by flyweights to control the fuel injection volume in accordance with the engine speed. A modulator valve is actuated by the flyweights to control the supply pump pressure in accordance with engine speed. A fuel injection timing means is responsive to the modulated supply pump pressure to control the angular relationship between the engine crankshaft and the rotary cam and thereby the fuel injection timing in accordance with the modulated pressure.

  • Patent number: 4151953
Abstract: A thermopneumatic actuator of the invention is used to control an automobile heater and/or air conditioner to maintain a desired temperature in the automobile passenger compartment through a mechanical output member of the actuator. The output member is connected to and moved by a diaphragm which is positioned by vacuum introduced from the automobile intake manifold and works against a diaphragm spring. A valve is controlled by a bimetal spring exposed to air from the passenger compartment to modulate the vacuum applied to the diaphragm. A feedback spring connected between the diaphragm and the valve works against the bimetal spring. An aspirator comprising a venturi tube causes air flow from the passenger compartment around the bimetal spring.

  • Patent number: 4144002
Abstract: A rotor is operatively provided in a bore of a cylinder which is formed with an inlet and an outlet. The cylinder is enclosed by a housing with an annular chamber being defined between the cylinder and the housing. The housing has an inlet which is connected to the inlet of the cylinder. The outlet of the cylinder is provided at an upper portion thereof. An oil sump is defined by a lower portion of the annular chamber of the housing. A partition divides the interior of the housing into the annular chamber within which the cylinder is disposed and an outlet chamber which communicates with an outlet of the housing. The lower portion of the partition is cut away to communicate the annular chamber with the outlet chamber.

  • Patent number: 4143632
Abstract: A fuel injection timing control device for an engine comprises a control member which is mechanically connected to a fuel injection pump to control the injection timing or advance angle. The output pressure of an engine driven low pressure supply pump for the fuel injection pump is balanced against the force of a spring by means of first piston which is connected to position the control member. A second piston and spring combination is exposed to the supply pump pressure in such a manner that the second piston engages with and moves the first piston and thereby the control member to a timing advance position when the engine is being started and the engine speed and the supply pump pressure are very low in order to reduce the emission of pollutants.
