Abstract: A device for permitting control of a target computer by a remote computer is operatively connectable to the remote computer so as to receive remote computer mouse and keyboard signals and transmit video update data to the remote computer. The device is operatively connectable to the target computer so as to provide the remote computer keyboard and mouse signals as control inputs to the target computer and so as to receive a target computer video signal for generation of video update data. The device includes a virtual memory disk, wherein the virtual floppy disk includes a memory space associated with the device. The device is configured to permit a user of the remote computer to mount the device to the remote computer, transfer data to the virtual memory disk, and unmount the virtual memory disk.

Abstract: In KVM systems for comparing new video frames to reference frames to update video, a method of reducing the effects of noise comprising (i) determining the differences between the sets of pixel values for new and reference pixels to produce a difference set of difference elements for each pixel; (ii) weighting the absolute value of each difference element within the difference set (iii) summing the weighted difference elements over all of the pixels of the horizontal line of the sub-block to produce a weighted difference element sum; (iv) determining whether the weighted difference element sum exceeds a predetermined sum threshold; (v) if yes, determining that the sub-block has changed so as to require updating.

Abstract: A method of arbitrating access to a storage medium that is shared by M first computers operating on a Windows™ operating comprising (1) determining if the SCSI PR-flag has been set; (2) if yes, preventing the N second computers from writing to the storage medium; and (3) setting the SCSI MC-flag for each of said M first computers after one of the second computers writes to the storage medium to notify the M first computers that the contents of the storage medium may have changed.
