Abstract: A system and method include a computer readable storage medium having stored thereon a computer program comprising instructions which when executed by a computer cause the computer to apply a first plurality of radio frequency (RF) pulses during a first repetition time (TR) interval of a magnetic resonance (MR) pulse sequence. The instructions also cause the computer to apply a first plurality of gradient pulses and acquire the MR data during application of each gradient pulse of the first plurality of gradient pulses between an adjacent pair of RF pulses of the first plurality of RF pulses. Each gradient pulse of the first plurality of gradient pulses is configured to allow acquisition of MR data for a respective first bladelet passing through a center of k-space, wherein the first bladelets are non-parallel with each other. The instructions also cause the computer to reconstruct the acquired MR data into an image.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for processing light from a light source. The method includes the steps of measuring a predetermined set of characteristics of the light source and detecting flicker when the predetermined set of characteristics exceed a corresponding flicker fusion threshold value.
Abstract: The invention provides hydroxybupropion analogues capable of inhibiting the reuptake of one or more monoamines and/or acting as antagonists at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. The compounds may selectively bind to one or more monoamine transporters, including those for dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin and/or may selectively bind to one or more nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtypes. Such compounds may be used to treat conditions that are responsive to modification of monoamine levels and/or antagonism of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, including drug dependency, depression, and obesity.

Abstract: Tetrahydroberberine (THB), isolated from the Chinese herb “Corydalis ambigua”, exhibits a variety of pharmacological effects, although mechanisms of action are unclear or entirely unknown. Described herein are novel methods of using tetrahydroberberine (THB), THB analogs or derivatives, tetrahydroprotoberberines (THPB). Tetrahydroberberine (THB) and analogs such as l-stepholidine (l-SPD) potently block functional KATP channels natively expressed on midbrain dopamine neurons. Further, THB also blocks pancreatic ?-cell KATP channels, and can be developed to a novel drugs for treating disease and/or conditions such as diabetes and Parkinson's disease.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for characterizing square wave jerks in the eye movements of a person, which may provide a powerful tool in the differential diagnosis of oculomotor and neurological disease. The method includes the steps of a) providing a sequence of saccades, b) identifying pairs of consecutive saccades of the sequence, c) determining whether each saccade of each identified pair is opposite the direction of the other saccade and, if not, then discarding the pair, d) determining whether a magnitude of each saccade of each identified pair is comparable and, if not, then discarding the pair, e) determining whether the pair of saccades of each identified pair are temporally related by a predetermined time period and, if not, then discarding the pair and f) collecting any remaining pairs of saccades as square wave jerks.

Abstract: A pair of sheets defining a disposable sheath for covering the electrical leads in a monitoring system used for monitoring patient vital signs and secured together along edges and along spaced seams to define a plurality of longitudinally extending compartments. A plurality of tear lines extend along the spaced seams from the second end to a distance spaced from the first end for laterally separating the compartments into separate arms, and fingers, whereby electrical leads may be bundled together in the open distance at the first end and inserted into the arms and fingers. A seal seals the sheets about the electrical leads at the respective ends.
