    Abstract: In a barrier piston type fluent material dispensing container, for reducing permeation of the propellant which moves the barrier and dispenses the contents, past the piston and particularly past the flange surrounding the piston and sealing the piston in the container, the flange is of flexible plastic, typically of low density polyethylene, and the flange is surface treated with fluorine gas or other active fluorine compound which reduces the permeability of the flange to the bypassage of the propellant material, for increasing the shelf life of the can contents and eliminating contamination and deterioration thereof.

    Abstract: For a pressurized container for dispensing a fluent material, and particularly an aerosol container, the cover or lid is domed, but is of sufficiently thin material that it might distort under elevated pressure in the container. To inhibit such distortion, one or both of the side walls of the cover recess, which is toward the periphery of the installed cover, are reinforced against deforming or stretching out of the container. In one embodiment, the radially inner wall of the recess engages the radially outer wall of the recess so that outward distortion of the dome of the cover is resisted by the stiffness of both engaged walls of the recess, strengthening the thin material domed cover against deformation under pressure in the container. Specifically, there may be annular ribs or other engageable deformations on walls of the recess that engage and thereby provide interference against the radially outer wall moving up out of the container upon the dome attempting to deform outwardly.

    Abstract: A low pressure aerosol dispensing can which is distinguished from existing high pressure aerosol dispensing cans. The generally cylindrical can has a thin wall thickness, like that of a carbonated beverage can, which can be distorted by finger pressure but whose shape is maintained by internal gas pressure. The liquid contents to be dispensed and the propellant gas are mixed in the can. The dispensing valve at the top of the can dispenses the liquid contents and propellant in a controlled manner. The valve may include an additional narrow bore vapor tap between the gaseous propellant head space in the can and the valve chamber for delivering extra gas for atomizing the liquid and propelling it from the nozzle. The gas pressure in the can is coordinated with the can wall and bottom thickness so that the can will have sufficient distortion resistance and burst resistance at elevated temperature.
