Abstract: A device and method for preventing the backflow of undesirable gases from being drawn up through a drain line into a room. The device is particularly useful in applications where liquid flow into the drain is infrequent, resulting in little or no liquid left standing in the P-trap to serve as a gas barrier. When installed the device prevents the unwanted backflow of sewer gases into the room above. However, if water or a similar liquid is introduced into the drain line, the device dissolves, thereby allowing the liquid to pass down the drain line.
Abstract: A garbage disposal treatment system, preferably for use with a double basin sink comprising first and second basins, a garage disposal mounted under the first basin and a sink drain pipe mounted under the second basin and having a P-trap is provided. The treatment system comprises a refillable reservoir for holding sanitizing liquid, an electrically powered pump for pumping the liquid into the garbage disposal so that the liquid impinges on the garbage disposal blades and splashguard, and switch for activating the pump. The treatment system may also pump liquid into the sink drain pipe of the second sink.
Abstract: A method of using a solid chemical stick for treating a kitchen sink drain pipe is provided. The solid chemical stick has dimensions that enable it to fit through a drain guard but prevent the stick from moving beyond the drain trap. The stick diminishes in size as it dissolves until it is swept away by drain water passing through the drain pipe.
Abstract: A combination garbage disposal safety poker, scraper and deodorizer/sanitizer device is provided. The device comprises a cup-shaped strainer, a handle mounted to the strainer, a hollow cylindrical stem extending downward from the strainer, and a replaceable rubber scraper connected to lower end of the hollow stem and used for scraping waste from dishes and sinks. The inside of the stem serves as a compartment for holding a deodorizer/sanitizer tablet. Holes in the strainer and in the stem expose the deodorizer/sanitizer tablet to water, thereby gradually dissolving the tablet and continually deodorizing the garbage disposal unit and drain.
Abstract: An improved combination garbage disposal safety poker and scraper for scraping waste from eating ware and sinks and pushing such materials into the disposal unit so that such wastes are close as possible to the blades of the disposal. The safety poker/scraper has interchangeable tops which may consist of a cup-shaped drain and handle, an elastomeric cap and handle or simply an enlarged handle. The scraper portion is detachable and can be replaced when worn. The scraper portion is curved so that it can fit more easily into the garbage disposal unit.
