Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of vegetable or fruit pieces, in particular to a process for preparing vegetable or fruit pieces which are more firm or which show reduced attrition/disintegration when subjected to shear, and which process does not require the addition of divalent cations such as calcium.
Abstract: A fabric rebuild polymer comprising a cellulose or other &bgr;-1,4 linked polysaccharide backbone with acetate groups pendant thereto, the average degree of substitution of acetate groups on the saccharide groups of the backbone being 0.55-0.70, with a molecular weight in the range 12,000-20,000 gives particularly effective fabric rebuild effect in a laundry treatment process at a pH in the range 9.5-11.0.

Abstract: The invention relates to catalytically bleaching substrates, especially laundry fabrics, with atmospheric oxygen and a peroxyl species. A method of bleaching a substrate is provided that comprises applying to the substrate, in an aqueous medium, a specified organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by atmospheric oxygen and a peroxyl species. Also provided is a bleaching composition comprising, in an aqueous medium, atmospheric oxygen and an organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by the atmospheric oxygen, wherein the aqueous medium is provided with a peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or peroxy-generating bleach system.

Abstract: A bleaching composition for laundry fabrics is provided, comprising:
a bleach catalyst comprising a ligand which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of stains in the absence of peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or -generating bleach system; and
a dye transfer inhibition agent, and wherein the composition is substantially devoid of peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or -generating bleach system.
The bleaching composition provides effective bleaching performance on fabric stains without unacceptable transfer of dyes between fabrics.

Abstract: A mass spectroscopy apparatus having two quadrupole mass analyzer stages is disclosed. Both stages are configured to transmit ions of the same mass to charge ratio and they are operated in series to provide a tandem mass analyzer having greater resolution than either stage has separately. The poles of the two quadrupoles are positioned axially and close together to minimize ion loss between the two stages. The RF component of the potential across the two stages are kept in phase such that some poles of the first stage are always 180° out of phase with some poles of the other stage. Capacitors are provided to couple the out of phase poles of the two stages to one another, thereby compensating for a stray capacitance which arises between the in phase poles of the two stages.
Abstract: A detergent tablet having at least two discrete regions each compacted from particulate composition, wherein a first said region consists of a compacted particulate composition containing swelling disintegrant such that the region increases in volume on contact with water, and in at least one direction through said region is flanked on both sides by one or more other regions which swell to a lesser extent on contact with water than said first region.

Abstract: In a first aspect, a process for forming deodorant or antiperspirant sticks by continuously forming a mobile composition for dispensing into containers or molds at a rate matched with the rate at which it is dispensed, and in other aspects a process in which a mobile deodorant or antiperspirant composition is dispensed by injection molding, i.e. a process in which the deodorant or antiperspirant composition is dispensed under pressure. The composition at the time of injection moulding is preferably either in the vicinity of its regular set temperature, particularly in the range of about 0-3° C. below the regular set temperature and/or partially structured at the time of its delivery it into a container or mold.

Abstract: A device for stamping a detergent bar, i.e. a bar comprising soap, a synthetic detergent active or a mixture thereof, includes a die half and a release fluid reservoir. The die is porous so that at least one bar stamping surface has pores through which a release fluid may be to facilitate clean release of the detergent bar cleanly after stamping. Good release of the detergent bars from the die is expected without or with reduced chilling of the dies.
