    Abstract: A device and method for preparing café au lait by introducing milk into a drinking vessel to a level below its open top; and introducing hot coffee into the drinking vessel via a flow restrictor member formed with a plurality of holes of such size, number and distribution to permit the coffee to flow therethrough at a sufficiently slow rate to form a distinct layer over the milk with a minimum of turbulence and mixing with the milk.
