    Abstract: A biodegradable polymeric composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a first polymer which is comprised predominantly of R(-)-3-hydroxybutyric acid and from 3 to 4,000 parts by weight of second polymer which is a random copolymer of R(--)-3-hydroxybutyric acid and S(+)-3-hydroxybutyric acid. The composition provides a flexible article having improved mechanical properties while maintaining biodegradability to a degree at least comparable to that of the first polymer.
