  • Patent number: 10786886
Abstract: A pneumatic crankshaft clamp assembly for retaining a crankshaft during processing having a housing for supporting the crankshaft and a clamp arm pivotally coupled to the housing for movement between a clamp position and an unclamp position. The clamp arm engaging the crankshaft to retain the crankshaft in contact with the housing in the clamp position and be spaced apart from the crankshaft in the unclamp position. The proximal end of the clamp arm having a cam follower. The assembly further having a pneumatic piston disposed within a piston cylinder of the housing. The pneumatic piston is moveable in response to pneumatic pressure. The piston having a cam formed thereon engaging the cam follower of the lifting arm such that the lifting arm moves in response to pneumatic pressure.

  • Patent number: 10605690
Abstract: A measuring machine feeds imbalance data of the workpiece to a solution processor. The associated memory defines a model data structure to store the imbalance data and also store data indicative of the geometry of the workpiece, where the model data structure stores workpiece geometry data representing the location of at least one workpiece modification site, referenced to at least one predetermined reference frame. The solution processor is programmed to execute a solver program that seeks at least one solution to reduce the imbalance, using the model data structure as solver constraints. The solution processor outputs at least one solution as imbalance reduction data representing the location of at least one workpiece modification site together with a datum indicative of a weight to be added to or removed from the workpiece at the modification site.

  • Patent number: 10302520
Abstract: A crankshaft balancer suspension system for measuring an imbalance of a crankshaft. The crankshaft balancer suspension system has a base structure, a measurement bridge structure configured to support the crankshaft during rotation, and a plurality of flexural support legs extending between the base structure and the measurement bridge structure. The plurality of flexural support legs are sized and shaped to permit flexure of the measurement bridge structure relative to the base structure. The crankshaft balancer suspension system further having a drive system having a drive shaft connectable to the crankshaft for rotating the crankshaft and a sensor coupled to the measurement bridge structure for detecting an imbalance in the crankshaft during rotation and outputting imbalance data.

  • Patent number: 10190933
Abstract: A crankshaft balancer machine for balancing a crankshafts having a measurement station configured to rotate the crankshaft to obtain vibration-related data, a transfer station configured to transfer the crankshaft between the measurement station and the correction station, and a correction station configured to drill at least a portion of the crankshaft to correct an imbalance in response to the imbalance data. The measurement station includes a base structure, a measurement bridge support, a plurality of flexural support legs extending therebetween, at least one sensor, and a drive system to spin the crankshaft and output imbalance data. The transfer station includes at least one lifting arm selectively engaging the crankshaft and supporting the crankshaft during transfer. The correction station includes a drilling device horizontally disposed to achieve a horizontal drill direction into the crankshaft to correct any imbalance according to a customized software protocol.

  • Patent number: 9061555
Abstract: A programmable wheel and tire assembly machine and method of assembly is disclosed which compensates for different wheel and tire combinations, as well as dynamically manipulates the present arms during the mounting process. An upper present arm is supported in a manner to provide at least two axes of movement, the upper present arms capable of independent manipulation along/about each axis. A lower present arm is supported in a manner to provide at least one axis of movement, the lower present arm capable of manipulation in a horizontal plane. Wheel and tire data is collected and used to generate a mounting protocol for individual tire & wheel combination. Continuous position feedback of the present arms may be employed to further control movement throughout the mounting process.

  • Patent number: 7029530
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for soaping a tire using an inflatable bladder. The inflatable bladder is extended through a center opening in a tire and inflated to cause soap on the surface of the bladder to soap the inner surface of the tire. The bladder is then deflated and removed from the opening in the tire so that the tire can be subsequently mounted to a wheel.

  • Patent number: 6801126
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for installing tire pressure monitor sensors onto wheels and for assembling tires onto wheels having tire pressure monitor sensors. The method includes orienting a wheel to place a tire pressure monitor sensor in a predetermined location using an automated orientation system in order to prevent damage to the tire pressure monitor sensor during assembly of a tire onto the wheel. The orientation of the wheel is detected using signals emitted from the tire pressure monitor sensor in order to ensure that the tire pressure monitor sensor is in its proper predetermined location prior to assembling the tire onto the wheel. After the tire is assembled onto the wheel and is inflated, a signal from the tire pressure monitor sensor is then read in order to determine if the tire pressure monitor sensor is functioning and if the tire is properly inflated.
