Patent number: 4785493Abstract: A door check wherein a housing is affixed to the pivotable panel and a guide rail is affixed to the frame of a door. The housing contains a shaft which is rigidly connected with one end of an arm the other end of which is slidably guided by the rail. The shaft carries a disc cam having two asymmetric sections one of which is tracked by a spring-biased follower surrounding an antifriction bearing and tending to return the panel to its closed position and the other of which is tracked by a roller on the piston of a damper which yieldably opposes the movement of the panel back to its closed position. The configuration of the two cam sections is selected with a view to allow for a reduction of the resistance which the follower offers to opening of the door shortly after the panel leaves its closed position as well as to ensure that the damper can operate independently of the follower and vice versa.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1987Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4660250Abstract: An automatic door closer whose housing confines a reciprocable damper piston cooperating with a rotary shaft to rotate the shaft in a direction to close the door or to be moved by the shaft in response to opening of the door. The piston can be biased in a direction to close the door through the medium of the shaft by a strong coil spring as well as by a relatively weak second spring in the form of a torsion spring, an extension spring or a compression spring. The second spring ensures that the party opening the door invariably encounters some resistance to movement of the door from closed position as well as that the door begins to move toward the closed position as soon as the door opening force is reduced below the force of the second spring.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1985Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4580365Abstract: In a door lock comprised of an elongated housing in which a piston loaded with a spring is displaceable in two opposite axial directions, a rotatable locking shaft connected to the door wing and provided with a pinion engaged with a rack formed on that piston, the spring is prestressed in the direction of the closing of the door. The spring acts on a displaceable supporting member which displaces the piston in the housing of the lock. An electromotor actuated by a control unit is operated to displace the supporting member.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1983Date of Patent: April 8, 1986Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4564973Abstract: In a door closing device for an upper lock a bar structure is provided for interconnecting a shaft of the door upper lock with a door wing. The bar structure includes a main arm and an adjusting arm pivotally connected to the adjusting arm. The adjusting arm is comprised of telescopically displaceable outer and inner bars which can be locked in position by a locking member. The locked position of the bars relative to each other is secured by a slidable tube surrounding the outer bar and securable to the inner bar.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1983Date of Patent: January 21, 1986Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4376323Abstract: An automatic door closer comprises a closer shaft connected to a door for turning therewith and being turnably mounted in the region of one end of an elongated fluid-filled housing. A cam disk fixed to the closer shaft cooperates over rollers carried by a slide to move the latter and a piston rod fixed thereto during opening movement of the door in a first direction. A first piston arranged in the housing divides the latter into a first and a second pressure space and is connected to the piston rod passing through a bore in the first piston for moving therewith in the first direction to thereby reduce the volume of the first pressure space while increasing the volume of the second pressure space. A coiled compression spring arranged about the piston rod biases the first piston to move in a second direction opposite said first direction. A second piston fixed to the free end of the piston rod projects beyond the first piston into a cylinder space formed in a plug closing the other end of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1981Date of Patent: March 15, 1983Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4349939Abstract: An automatic door closer in which a piston operatively connected to the door to be moved in axial direction during turning of the door in either direction from a closed to an open position divides the fluid filled housing of the door closer into two pressure compartments which are connected by two channels in which adjustable throttles are arranged to dampen the movement of the door or to be completely closed to prevent passage of fluid through the channels to hold the door in any open position.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1980Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4330960Abstract: Closing arrangement for sliding doors adapted to move between closed and open positions along a lengthwise guide track. The arrangement includes a rotor operatively connected with connecting links connected to the door and arranged to move along the guide track. Brake arrangement is mounted with a drive member mounted in coaxial alignment with the rotor shaft. The closing arrangement is provided with a coupling device which is operatively connected to the rotor shaft and comprises an electromagnetic coupling and a friction coupling mounted on a common shaft. The coupling device prevents an inadvertant backward movement of the open sliding door to its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1979Date of Patent: May 25, 1982Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4263694Abstract: A hydraulically controlled door closer in which a spring cooperating with a piston reciprocatable in a fluid filled bore urges a closer shaft operatively connected to the piston to a position in which a door connected to the closer shaft is closer. The spring is tensioned during turning of the closer shaft in a door opening direction and may be releasably held in the tensioned condition by an additional piston located between one end of the spring and the first-mentioned piston and provided with a first passage therethrough in which a one-way valve is located in a second passage which may be closed and opened by an electromagnetically operated valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1978Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4234996Abstract: An automatic door closer constructed for releasably holding a door in a predetermined partly open position mainly comprises a piston arranged in a cylinder bore of a housing and operatively connected to a closer shaft mounted in the housing turnable about an axis substantially normal to that of the cylindrical bore so that the piston will be reciprocated in the bore during turning of a door connected to the closer shaft. The piston divides the bore in the housing in two compartments filled with fluid and a coil compression spring in one of the compartments biases the piston to an end position corresponding to the closed position of the door. The piston is provided with two passages therethrough, in one of which a one-way valve is arranged permitting flow of fluid only from the one compartment into the other during movement of the piston in door opening direction.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1978Date of Patent: November 25, 1980Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co. KG.Inventor: Dietrich Jentsch

Patent number: 3989286Abstract: An arresting arrangement is mountable on the lower edge of a door adjacent to the floor and is movable between an inoperative and an operative position. A biasing spring permanently biases the arrangement to the inoperative position, and a latching arrangement serves to releasably latch the arresting arrangement in the operative position. An electromagnet controls the operation of the latching arresting arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1974Date of Patent: November 2, 1976Assignee: Dorma-Baubeschlag GmbH & Co.
