Abstract: The current invention concerns a single-use patch for appliance on a skin of a subject, comprising at least two and preferably three hollow sheaths suitable for temporarily housing a fiber optic, wherein said sheaths comprise two open ends, wherein said sheaths are positioned to form a therapeutic surface within said patch by providing a fixed end of the fiber optic ends; wherein said patch is preferably combined with a topical cover layer and an adhesive supporting layer suitable to be attached to the skin of a subject.
Abstract: A system and method for measuring a dose of ionizing radiation received by a pre-determined part of the body during radiotherapy or interventional procedures. The system comprises: a) a light guide, which under the influence of ionizing radiation undergoes measurable and quantifiable physical changes; b) a detector system which allows the recording and quantification of the signal emitted by the light guide; and c) a control unit which is adapted for calculating a dose of ionizing radiation previously or simultaneously received by the light guide on basis of said response signal. The light guide is coated over at least part of its length with a coating comprising a first component acting as a place dependent spectral filter and a second component including at least one luminescent material, dispersed in a transparent matrix. When exposed to radiation, the luminescent component will emit light with a spectrum depending on the chosen material.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system, a method and a filler for measuring a dose of ionizing radiation received by a pre-determined part of the body during radiotherapy while creating a space between the organ to be irradiated and organs to be protected. The invention also relates to uses of such filler. The system comprises an injectable dosimetric filler, which under the influence of ionizing irradiation undergoes measurable physical and/or chemical changes, while preserving its spatial integrity; a detector system for measuring the physical and/or chemical changes within the radiation sensitive filler by sending an energy wave to the radiation sensitive filler and capturing the signal emitted therefrom; and a control unit for processing the signal captured by the detector system and calculating a dose of ionizing radiation previously or simultaneously received by each part of the volume of the radiation sensitive filler on the basis of said signal.
