Abstract: According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a method of beamforming for a linear microphone array comprising: storing a desired end-fire beam response including a beamwidth specification; determining an error data set from the stored end-fire beam response; and determining beamforming weights based on a least squares minimisation of the error data set. There are also provided a system, a microphone array, and an apparatus.

Abstract: A method for noise filtering including receiving directional data corresponding to the relative directions of at least one noise source and at least one target audio source; capturing noise data from the at least one noise source; capturing target audio data from the at least one target audio source; using the directional data to filter the noise data from the target audio data; and outputting filtered target audio.

Abstract: A shroud for an aircraft configured to at least partially surround a noise source including a propeller. The shroud includes an outer layer and two or more sound absorbing materials located inside the shroud. The outer layer is configured to transmit noise from the noise source into the inside of the shroud and/or includes a recess located and sized to partially surround at least a part of a tip of at least one blade.

Abstract: A shroud for an aircraft having a noise reducing material on or in an inner surface of the shroud adjacent to one or more tips of the propeller. The noise reducing material is preferably an electrospun nanomaterial, particularly a ridged composite acoustic nanofibre. The interior surface of the shroud may be provided with a plurality of sound deflectors configured to dissipate sound by reflection and refraction, and absorb sound into the shroud body. The sound deflectors may be ribs or arrangements of discrete reflector elements.
