Abstract: Genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods are taught for production of transgenic plants which can be selectively removed from a growing site by application of a chemical agent or physiological stress. The invention links a target gene for the trait of commercial interest to a conditionally lethal gene, which can be selectively expressed to cause plant death. By use of the genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods of the present invention, invasion of environments and contamination of commercial non-engineered productions by transgenic plants can be avoided. Methods are also taught for transformation of Brassica species.

Abstract: A process is provided for determining the amount of sulfuryl fluoride in the atmosphere of an enclosed area that has been fumigated with sulfuryl fluoride (SO2F2). This process comprises: (A) sampling said atmosphere of said enclosed area to obtain a gaseous sample; (B) selectively removing water from said gaseous sample by passing said gaseous sample through a perevaporation zone to obtain a perevaporated sample, wherein said perevaporation zone comprises a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoro-3,6-dioxa-4-methyl-7-octene-sulfonic acid; and (C) analyzing said perevaporated sample in a sulfuryl fluoride detector to determine the amount of sulfuryl fluoride in said perevaporated sample.

Abstract: This invention pertains in part to the development of a vaccine for poultry against necrotic enteritis (NE). The vaccine utilizes a protective antigen that is a mutated, full-length, non-toxic Clostridium perfringens (Cp) ?-toxin protein (Mcpa). Utility of this vaccine was demonstrated by reduction of lesion severity in NE challenge trails, for example. Also disclosed herein are novel approaches for producing this vaccine in significant quantities. One exemplified approach involves producing NE vaccine (mutated alpha toxin) in bacterial expression systems, preferably utilizing the Pseudomonas fluorescens system, for commercial use in controlling NE in the poultry industry. The subject vaccines can be administered preferably to chickens in several different ways. A novel, Type VI alpha toxin from chicken isolates of Cp is also disclosed.

Abstract: This invention provides modified, insecticidal Cry35 proteins with enhanced properties as compared to wild-type Cry35 proteins. The modifications to these proteins were based in part on analysis of the atomic coordinates and three-dimensional (3D) structure of the ˜45 kDa 149B1 protein and other proteins in the Cry35 class. The subject invention also includes polynucleotides that encode these modified proteins, and transgenic plants that produce these modified proteins. This invention further provides methods of controlling plant pests, including rootworms, with these modified proteins. The modified proteins of the subject invention include chimeric toxins involving exchanged segments, domains, and motifs as discussed herein. The subject invention also provides methods of modifying Cry35 proteins.
