Abstract: A method of and an arrangement for thickening of suspensions includes filtering of a suspension through candlelike filter elements in a filter container, backwashing the filter elements individually without interrupting the filtration process by applying pressure impulses of gaseous backwash medium to the pressure elements in a direction opposite to the filtration direction, wherein the gaseous backwash medium forms a gas chamber over the filter elements separated from the suspension fluid and having an adjustable pressure.
Abstract: A filter apparatus for continuously thickening a suspension is proposed. The filter apparatus consists of a housing which accommodates a plurality of filter elements depending on individual collecting pipes. The collecting pipes are located parallel to each other and are separated by intermediate walls which extend beyond the collecting pipes and the filter elements in axial direction.

Abstract: An arrangement for fastening filter candles and filter apparatus provided therewith includes a collecting pipe which is composed of several T-shaped pipe pieces. Each of the pipe pieces has a substantially horizontal portion and extending therefrom a second portion which has a free end part provided with a groove. Each of the filter candles has an upper part provided with a flange portion which is engageable into the groove to obtain a tight attachment of the filter candle to the collecting pipe.
Abstract: Filter element for a pressure filter container, composed of a central tube surrounded by a plurality of support tubes for supporting a filter web. The support tubes can be closed or perforated. The space between the central tube and support tubes, as well as the interior in the case of perforated support tubes, serve as flow canal for the filtrate. The use of plastic tubing provides a simple and cost-favorable filter element.
Abstract: A backwashing alluvial filter has a vertical filter container, a plurality of collecting pipes removably mounted in the container, a plurality of filter elements suspended on the collecting pipes, separating walls subdividing the interior of the filter container into at least two chambers, and communicating with one another via vertical overflow shafts. Washing off of solid matter is performed by supplying a washing liquid via pipes directly under the overflow shafts.
