Patents Assigned to Draftex Development A.G.
  • Patent number: 4542610
Abstract: A sealing or trimming strip has a gripping section and a sealing section and is formed into an open or a closed ring for mounting on a flange running around an opening in a vehicle body. The resilient plastics or rubber material of the gripping section is formed to provide a hollow tube in to which an insert of hardened metal wire may be placed. The wire, which may extend completely around the ring or which may be in the form of separate end-shaped lengths, stiffens the strip and enables it to hold a desired `set` or shape, but does not prevent the strip from being compressed longitudinally to the extent which may be permitted by any reinforcing metal carrier (if provided).

  • Patent number: 4483113
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for mounting a windshield glass is made of plastics or rubber material with an embedded metal carrier for mounting the arrangement on a flanged joint running around the window opening. The flexible material defines a slit for receiving part of a metal frame which runs around the periphery of the window glass and may be adhesively secured to it before assembly. To facilitate insertion of the window glass, the flexible material may be bent outwardly, and is then allowed to resile and locked in the resiled position by inserting a stiffening member into a slot. The arrangement provides substantially flush-mounting of the window glass, and no part of the flexible material or of the stiffening member extends further outwards of the window opening than the metal frame to any significant extent.

  • Patent number: 4370833
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for sealing the edge of a window glass comprises a metal channel mounted at least partially around the window opening so as to be open towards the direction along which the edge of the window glass approaches in closing the opening. A hollow rubber tube is secured within this channel. Two flocked leaves are integral with the tube and extend longitudinally along the surface of the tube which faces the distal edge of the window glass. These leaves are parallel to each other and spaced slightly apart so as to define a longitudinally extending open mouth facing the glass edge. The approaching window glass partially flattens the tube and thereby causes the facing surfaces of the leaves to press against the sides of the window glass immediately adjacent its distal edge.

  • Patent number: 4324826
Abstract: A channel-shaped sealing strip comprises a channel-shaped metal core or carrier completely embedded in flexible plastics or rubber material which additionally defines gripping lips on the two opposite inside wall surfaces of the channel and running longitudinally along the strip. There are four relatively small such lips on one inside wall surface which are substantially equidistantly spaced from each other and the first or outermost one of which runs along the distal edge of its wall surface adjacent the mouth of the channel. There are two relatively larger such lips on the opposite inside wall surface. A soft rubber seal may be attached to the outside surface of the strip. The arrangement of the lips stabilises the strip against rocking or wobbling on a flange (e.g. a motor vehicle body flange around a door opening on which the strip may be mounted in use).

  • Patent number: 4196546
Abstract: There is disclosed a channel-shaped sealing strip incorporating a metal carrier covered with flexible material, the metal carrier comprising a series of side-by-side U-shaped elements each of which is connected to the next element by at least one connecting link. At least during the manufacturing process for the strip, adjacent elements are also connected by at least one other connection whose thickness is reduced compared with the connecting link and with the remainder of the metal; these other connections may, and advantageously do, break during the manufacturing process so that, in the finished strip, each U-shaped element is connected to the next element by the connecting link but is also spaced therefrom by distance pieces formed from the broken-off connections.

  • Patent number: 3993819
Abstract: A reinforcing carrier for a flexible channel-shaped sealing, finishing, or guide strip is disclosed, comprising a series of U-form elements arranged side-by-side to define a channel, the legs of the elements being interconnected by means of short connecting links each of which extends from a point on a leg of one element to a point on the corresponding leg of the adjacent element. The two attachment points for each leg are at different distances from the base of the channel so that each connecting link is slanted with respect to the legs of the U-form element. Each leg has substantially the same flexibility at each of its points of attachment to the two legs which it interconnects, thus giving the carrier good flexibility about the longitudinal axis of the channel. The carrier is covered with resilient covering material to form the sealing, finishing or guide strip. The carrier may be produced by slitting and stretching the metal blank and then bending it into U-form.
