  • Patent number: 5208576
Abstract: An electrical external resistor with a plate-like, electrical insulating carrier element and a flat resistance element arranged on the upper side of the carrier element. The carrier element has several films forming a closed coating and varying in their electrical conductivity. The films arranged on the upper side and on the lower side of the carrier element consist of cermet, and the film covering the edge area of the carrier element consists of an electrically insulating material. By means of springs or a pressure distribution plate, the resistance element is pressed against the upper cermet film of the carrier element. The interior space of the housing is filled with a casting compound made of addition cross-linking two-component silicon caoutchouc (rubber). The electrical external resistance is discharge-free.

  • Patent number: 4472757
Abstract: An electric capacitor particularly for use as a high frequency power capacitor, and provided with liquid cooling, the capacitor having separated metal layers as its plates and the metal layers being separated by a densely sintered ceramic dielectric body, one embodiment of which is generally pot-shaped. Heat generated in the capacitor is dissipated by cooling liquid which is directed by a jacket surrounding that one metal layer to pass over the metal layer and dissipate the heat. The metal layer is comprised of a silver frit. To avoid the metal layer being eroded by the cooling liquid, a layer of glaze, which is resistant to the cooling liquid and whose coefficient of expansion is similar to that of the dielectric body covers over the metal layer in contact with the cooling liquid.

  • Patent number: 4467396
Abstract: The present invention relates to a monolithic capacitor of an insulating body of densely sintered ceramic material having electrically conductive layers interleaved parallel to and spaced from each other, extending alternately to one of two opposite outer surfaces of the insulating body where they are connected together by metal connecting layers to form the two plates of the capacitor. In order to obtain a very high capacitance per unit of volume, the insulating body is a semiconductive strontium titanate ceramic with grain-boundary barrier layers. In view of the fact that, in the case of such a ceramic, noble metals would diffuse into the grain-boundary barrier layer and reduce the insulation resistance, the electrically conductive layers of non-noble metals or metal alloys are injected into open-pore hollow spaces which form a network.

  • Patent number: 4450500
Abstract: An electric capacitor of variable capacitance, including a dielectric body comprised of densely sintered ceramic material, including a hollow space extending longitudinally through the tubular ceramic body for containing dielectric liquid. First and second dielectric liquids of different dielectric constants and densities are contained in the hollow space, and an adjusting cylinder connected to the hollow space adjusts the height levels of the two dielectric liquids in the hollow space for adjusting the capacitance of the capacitor. The hollow space is either longitudinal channels through the tubular body or is a radial space between two concentric tubular bodies which together define the dielectric body. The metal layers of the capacitor plates are respectively on the inside and the outside of the dielectric body.

  • Patent number: 4340898
Abstract: A barrier layer capacitor and a process for producing that capacitor: A central reduction layer formed of ceramic material is produced with a rectangular cross-section. A reoxidation layer is formed on all of the surfaces and is removed from one of the surfaces. Grooves are formed in opposite surfaces, including the one from which the reoxidation layer has been removed. A metal layer is applied around the entire capacitor body, except on the surface from which the reoxidation layer has been removed. Narrow strips are removed from the metal layer on the sides adjacent the surface without the reoxidation layer and at a location slightly away from that reoxidation layer free surface. On the reoxidation layer free surface, a connection coating is applied which extends up to the unremoved portion of the solderable metal coating. The capacitor may be cut from an elongated bar.

  • Patent number: 4319304
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a tubular capacitor having a relatively thin tube of dielectric material with metal layers formed on the outer and inner surfaces for forming the capacitor plates. A connecting cap is pushed over the outer layer and is connected electrically with one wire leading out of the capacitor. Another connecting wire extends into the tube and includes a widened portion that is engaged with or extends toward the inner layer. The widened portion is opposed to the pressure on the tube by the connecting cap. Insulation is provided in the exterior of the capacitor between the end of the wire and the connecting cap.

  • Patent number: 4313157
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a capacitive network and also concerns the individual metal layer carrying dielectric layers of which the capacitive network is comprised. Each dielectric layer is comprised of a flat plate having one or two rows of metal layers printed on one surface of it. At least one or perhaps both of the opposite edges of the dielectric layers are formed with grooves or incisions that define respective electric contact areas. There is a respective row of metal layers on the dielectric layer for each edge with grooves. Each metal layer is shaped to have a respective lead portion that extends toward a respective adjacent groove. The lead portions from the metal layers extend toward a first set of alternate grooves, leaving the second alternate set of contact areas not receiving an electric lead of that dielectric layer.

  • Patent number: 4298902
Abstract: A capacitor cascade is disclosed comprising a columnar array of ceramic disk capacitors, each consisting of a ceramic disk with metal electrodes on opposite surfaces thereof. A metal electric connecting part is positioned between adjacent capacitors and is in electrical contact with the opposed electrodes. The connecting parts are resilient. The capacitor cascade is secured together. The connecting parts are each comprised of a base part and elements extending from the base part into engagement with the opposed capacitor electrodes. In one embodiment, each connecting part is deformed to define feet extending toward each of the opposed electrodes. In another embodiment, each connecting part is shaped to define tongues and the connecting part is folded into a generally "S" shape, wherein each tongue engages a respective one of the opposed electrodes. In the latter case, the tongues may be shaped so as to define spacing limitations for limiting the extent to which the tongues may deflect toward each other.

  • Patent number: 4273803
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a process for covering or coating an electric component with an insulating coating. The electric component has electric leads extending away therefrom beyond an edge thereof. The electric component is first wetted with a solvent. Thereafter a jet of a liquid covering or coating material is directed against at least one surface of the electric component and it migrates over the edge of the component also to the opposite surface of the electric component. The orientation of the electric component with respect to the jet flow and the placement of the jet flow with respect to the electric component is described.

  • Patent number: 4271454
Abstract: A liquid cooled capacitor includes a disk comprised of a dielectric, e.g., ceramic, material. On both opposite surfaces of the disk are applied a respective electrode. For cooling each of the electrodes, there is a liquid cooling chamber above it. In one embodiment, there is a contact plate at the base of the liquid cooling chamber. The liquid cooling chamber can receive a circulating flow of liquid therein, and the cooling of the contact plate by the liquid will in turn cool the electrodes. Diametrically oppositely positioned liquid connections to the liquid chamber effect cooling liquid circulation. There is a cover spaced away from the contact plate of the cooling liquid chamber which encloses that chamber. The cooling liquid chamber has a peripheral side wall that extends up from the cooling plate to the spaced away cover. In an alternate embodiment, the liquid chamber includes a plurality of annular liquid coolant-carrying tubes.

  • Patent number: 4234860
Abstract: A piezoelectric filter and the process of making the same in which the filter is enclosed in a capsule or envelope of dielectric material through which the connection for the electrodes extend. Self adhesive spacers on each principal surface of the piezoelectric filter are embossed to provide a spacing for the electrodes with respect to the envelope. In addition, slots or other openings between the embossed areas permit the envelope material to engage a surface of the filter that does not have an electrode for damping purposes. The process of manufacture is dictated by the structure and requires first the placement of the spacer in position with the enclosed areas registering with the electrodes and then the formation of the envelope.
