Abstract: The invention provides a system for analyzing and evaluating the performance and behavior of a driver of a vehicle, and for displaying the results of the analysis and evaluation. A vehicle sensor utility is used to monitor the state of the vehicle while being driven by the driver. A raw data stream from the vehicle sensor utility is input to a driving event handler that detects driving events in the raw data stream and outputs to a maneuver detector a driving event string. The maneuver detector is configured to recognize patterns of driving maneuvers. One or more ratings of the driver's driving performance are calculated based upon the driving maneuvers as executed by the driver. The ratings are displayed on a display.
Abstract: A method and system for determining one or more conditions of a driving insurance policy for a driver. The system of the invention comprises a processor configured to receive values of one or more parameters indicative of a driving profile of the driver and to calculate a value of each of one or more parameters indicative of the one or more conditions of the insurance policy based upon the values of the one or more parameters indicative of the driver's driving profile. Typically the one or more parameters indicative of the driving profile are calculated from a data steam generated by a vehicle sensor utility installed in a vehicle that monitors the state of the vehicle while being driven by the driver.
Abstract: A system and method for analyzing and evaluating the performance and attitude of a motor vehicle driver. A raw data stream from a set of vehicle sensors is filtered to eliminate extraneous noise, and then parsed to convert the stream into a string of driving event primitives. The string of driving events is then processed by a pattern-recognition system to derive a sequence of higher-level driving maneuvers. Driving maneuvers include such familiar procedures as lane changing, passing, and turn and brake. Driving events and maneuvers are quantified by parameters developed from the sensor data. The parameters and timing of the maneuvers can be analyzed to determine skill and attitude factors for evaluating the driver's abilities and safety ratings. The rendering of the data into common driving-related concepts allows more accurate and meaningful analysis and evaluation than is possible with ordinary statistical threshold-based analysis.
