  • Patent number: 10802762
Abstract: An asynchronous storage system may perform asynchronous writing of data from different sets of received non-consecutive synchronous write requests based on a dynamic write threshold that varies according to parameters of the storage device and/or synchronous write request patterns. The asynchronous writing may include coalescing data from a set of non-consecutive write requests in a plurality of received write requests that contain different data for a particular file, issuing a single asynchronous write request with the data that is coalesced from each write request of the set of non-consecutive write requests to the storage device instead of each write request of the set of non-consecutive write requests, and writing the data that is coalesced from each write request of the set of non-consecutive write requests to the storage device with a single write operation that is executed in response to the single asynchronous write request.

  • Patent number: 10560033
Abstract: A motor control system for induction-type AC electric motors having starting and run windings has a multiphase VFD drive with first and second phase outputs. A switching device with a first position, where a first output of the VFD drive is coupled to the run winding and a second output of the VFD drive couples to the start winding; and with the switching apparatus in second position, the run winding of the AC electric motor couples to an AC line input and the start winding of the AC electric motor couples through a capacitor and start switch to the AC line input. With the switching device in the first position, the second output of the VFD is configured to discontinue driving the start winding of the motor after the motor begins rotating.

  • Patent number: 10486753
Abstract: A transforming top drive vehicle having a passenger compartment and a separable base is disclosed. One or more hydraulic cylinders are positioned between the compartment and the base to provide force sufficient to raise the compartment. Concentric pipes having sufficient strength to support the compartment are installed with one end connected to the vehicle's base and the other connected to the passenger compartment. The vehicle allows ease of access and the ability to lower the vehicle's center of gravity when navigating rough or uneven terrain and, when the operator is interested in obtaining a better view of wildlife or otherwise increase the field of vision, the passenger compartment can be raised either incrementally or to its fully raised position.

  • Patent number: 9620159
Abstract: Rotational latency is reduced in a standard conventional form factor HDD system by replacing, for example, the prior art rotary arm actuator of a conventional HDD, with one or more belts and pulleys and one or more read/write heads mounted on, or otherwise associated with the belts. Multiple scaled iterations facilitate energy savings and power optimized systems, without compromise to data access performance.

  • Patent number: 8272982
Abstract: A drive system for a rotary device, such as an automotive alternator compensates for and dampens the effect of sudden bidirectional rotational velocity variations of the pulley caused by sudden acceleration and deceleration of an internal combustion engine without using a one-way clutch. The drive system in one aspect comprises an axially movable cam member rotatably supported on a hub that is connected to the alternator shaft and that is journaled within the pulley. The cam member is coupled to the pulley by splines so that it rotates with the pulley while affording axial movement. Springs urge the cam member into engagement with a cam follower on the hub. Upon sudden acceleration or deceleration of the pulley, the cam member rotates angularly relative to the cam follower and moves axially to compress the springs, which exert a restoring force on the cam member and cam follower to eliminate their relative angular rotation.

  • Patent number: 7707720
Abstract: A method for forming an impeller for a pump provides a reliable protective barrier that prevents or eliminates the ingress of pumped fluid that might otherwise attack the magnetic assembly of the impeller. An inner barrier is hermetically connected to an internal impeller section at one or more seams to cover at least part of a first magnetic assembly. Filler is introduced into a spatial volume of the first magnet assembly associated with the internal impeller section. The remainder of an impeller is molded over or in association with the internal impeller section to form the impeller with the inner barrier and an outer barrier overlying the inner barrier for protection of the first magnet assembly from the pumped fluid.

  • Patent number: 7572115
Abstract: A rotor for a magnetic-drive centrifugal pump includes a core for supporting a magnetic assembly of magnets. An inner barrier covers at least part of the magnets. The inner barrier hermetically isolates the magnetic assembly within the impeller. For example, in one embodiment the inner barrier may be sealed or hermetically connected to the core at one or more seams. An outer barrier overlies the inner barrier.
