Abstract: In a synchronization or back-up system that synchronizes and/or back-ups files from multiple computing devices, the present invention provides a method for (1) displaying files from multiple computing devices in a multi-view user interface and (2) enabling content and file operations to be performed on such files through the user interface. The multi-view interface includes a file-system view and one or more media-specific views. In the file-system view files are organized in the same way in which they are organized on the devices on which they are stored. The file-system view in the interface looks essentially the same as the file-system view on client devices. In the file-system view, users can perform file operations on files. In the media-specific view files are organized by media category. In one embodiment of the media-specific view, files are organized by metadata that relates to the files content. In the media-specific view, users can perform content operations on the files.

Abstract: A content item block replication protocol for multi-premises hosting of digital content items. In one embodiment, for example, a method comprises: receiving, from a server, a server journal entry identifying one or more content item blocks of a content item represented by the server journal entry; storing a replication log entry corresponding to the server journal entry in a replication log, the replication log entry identifying the one or more content item blocks of the content item represented by the server journal entry and identifying a block server; and either offering to send the one or more content item blocks identified in the replication log entry to the block server identified in the replication log entry, or downloading the one or more content item blocks identified in the replication log entry from the block server identified in the replication log entry.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for forming share bars including collections of content items. In some embodiments, a user interface may be displayed on a display interface of a user device. The user interface may include a first region including a collection of content items and a second region. A first gesture may be detected with the display interface that selects a first content item from the displayed collection of content items. In response to detecting the first gesture, a first thumbnail of the first content item may be created and placed in the second region. A share option may be provided within the second region that may enable a user of the user device to share any content items that may have a corresponding thumbnail in the second region.

Abstract: A message management service that acts as intermediary between a messaging service and a client device can generate a synchronization data bundle for a message that includes an external message identifier usable to retrieve the message from the messaging service. The message management service can send the synchronization data bundle to the client along with the message, and the client can store the synchronization data bundle for each message in its local data store. The client can later return the synchronization data bundle to the message management service, which can use information contained therein to facilitate synchronization and related operations.

A collector, who generates the collection folder, can invite one or more submitters to submit one or more files to the collection folder. Facial recognition is applied to the submitted files. The one or more submitters have limited rights to the collection folder. The limited rights can include uploading rights and prohibiting a submitter from viewing files that other submitters associated with the collection folder submitted. Thus, the collection folder is able to store files from the one or more submitters, but prevent them from viewing other's submissions.

Abstract: Techniques related to view-based expiration of shared content are described. An online content management system receives a view access request from a client device. The view access request includes a shared link to a server-stored content item. A view access counter associated with the shared link is used to determine that the view access request is authorized. The shared link is resolved to the server-stored content item, and at least a portion of the server-stored content item is sent to the client device. Optionally, instructions that cause the client device to send an acknowledgement can also be sent to the client device. The acknowledgement indicates that one or more presentation conditions have been satisfied. The one or more presentation conditions can include presenting at least the portion of the server-stored content item at the client device. The online content management system receives the acknowledgement and increments the view access counter.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for managing content across discrete systems. A content management system can be implemented to manage content items and synchronize content items across devices. A content collaboration system can be implemented to generate documents and facilitate collaboration on documents. To take advantage of the content management system's functionality to manage and synchronize content items while also providing the collaboration functionality of the content collaboration system, the content management system can store and manage references to documents created in the content collaboration system. The document references can be managed by the content management system such that the document references appear to users as if the document references were the referenced document in the collaboration system.

Abstract: An online content management service can manage distribution of event notifications to client devices based on notification keys. Client devices can register with the content management service to receive event notifications associated with one or more specific notification keys of interest. The content management service can receive information about events, determine a notification key for each event, and selectively send notifications to clients that are registered for that notification key. The content management service can store event notifications for client devices that are generated during a period when the client device is not in communication with the content management service and can send the missed event notifications to the client device when the client device reestablishes communication with the content management service.

Abstract: An automated system and method for presenting trending content items to a user in a graphical user interface. The system and method generates trend scores of content items for a user based on current interactions with the content items by top collaborators of the user. By accounting for trends in the form of current content item interactions by collaborators, the system and method determines which content items are both currently relevant to a given user and currently trending among the user's collaborators. The system and method presents content items determined to be trending for a user in a graphical user interface presented to the user. The system and method system improve computers for information discovery by enabling users to spend less time searching for content items.

Abstract: Techniques for coercing users to encrypt synchronized content stored at their personal computing devices. In some aspects, one or more computing devices receive, from a personal computing device, an indication of whether data stored in at least a portion of a storage device of the personal computing device is protected by disk encryption. In response to determining, based on the indication, that the portion of the storage device is not protected by encryption, synchronization data for synchronizing a copy of one or more synchronized content items stored in the portion of the storage device with another copy of the synchronized content items stored at one or more server computing devices is withheld from the personal computing device until disk encryption on the personal computing device is enabled so as to coerce the user to enable disk encryption on the personal computing device.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of a document organization system quickly and conveniently provide digital documents to a user on a client device based on a physical object. In particular, the document organization system can receive an image of a physical document and an identifier from a first client device, identify digital documents that match the physical document, and provide the matching digital documents to a second client device, which displays the identifier. In another embodiment, the document organization system allows a user to bind digital documents to a physical object and later recall the digital documents using the physical object. In addition, the document organization system can store and recall the layout arrangement of digital documents on a client device when binding and recalling the digital documents to the physical object.

Abstract: The present technology pertains to a organization directory hosted by a synchronized content management system. The corporate directory can provide access to user accounts for all members of the organization to all content items in the organization directory on the respective file systems of the members' client devices. Members can reach any content item at the same path as other members relative to the organization directory root on their respective client device. In some embodiments novel access permissions are granted to maintain path consistency.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of the present disclosure include a content navigation system that allows a user to search, browse, and otherwise experience a collection of digital content items. For example, the content navigation system can provide a graphical user interface including a scroll element. One or more embodiments of the scroll element can include various navigational functions that provide a user-friendly interface for browsing and experiencing a collection of digital content items. Furthermore, the content navigation system can provide methods and systems for a user to easily configure the way in which the digital content items are organized within the user interface, thereby customizing the user's browsing experience.

Abstract: A user viewing an online content item using an online content client application can, from within that application, launch an operating application to operate on the content item. The operating application can interact with the online content management provider to obtain a current copy of the content item and to save a modified content item back to the online content management service, e.g., if the user instructs the operating application to save the item. Interactions between the client application, the operating application and the online content management service can occur without requiring the user to manually initiate upload or download of any content items. Operations on an online content item can also be initiated from within an operating application.

The content management system sends the user notification queue corresponding to a user to the user's device when the user accesses the content item. The client device displays a content item in a window associated with a process on the device. A client application displays an interaction indicator that presents user notification queue content to the user.

Abstract: In some embodiments, upon detecting malicious activity associated with a user account, a content management system can identify other user accounts related to the malicious user account. The content management system can identify related user accounts by comparing authentication information collected for the malicious user account with authentication information collected for other user accounts. Authentication information can include IP address information, geographic information, device type, browser type, email addresses, and/or referral information, for example. The content management system can compare the content items associated with the malicious user account to content items associated with other user accounts to determine relatedness or maliciousness. After identifying related malicious user accounts, the content management system can block all related malicious user accounts.
