Patent number: 6733267Abstract: A solid imaging apparatus and method produces an integral three-dimensional object from a multiplicity of cross sectional portions of the object by selectively exposing successive layers of a liquid photoformable composition to actinic radiation. The apparatus includes a vessel for containing the composition so as to present a free surface, and a movable platform disposed within the vessel below the free surface. Part of the composition is transferred above the free surface by lowering and raising a dispenser at predetermined positions located away from the platform. A doctor blade contacts the composition transferred above the free surface, and then moves over the platform to form a substantially uniform layer of the composition.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2001Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: DSM Desotech, Inc.Inventors: Brian Gregory Chapman, Christian Henning Clausen, Daniel James Mickish, Eustathios Vassiliou

Patent number: 6306924Abstract: This invention provides an improved coating composition for glass substrates that comprises a tetrasubstituted compound. The introduction of a tetrasubstituted compound in a coating composition for a glass substrate, and in particular an optical fiber, acts to delay the rate of deterioration of the glass or optical fiber due to moisture, and improves adhesion between the glass substrate and the coating composition. The introduction of a tetrasubtituted compound into a polymeric coating composition also improves the interlayer adhesion when more than one coating is applied to a glass substrate. This invention further relates to an outer primary coating composition or matrix material that comprises an acid functional ethylenically unsaturated monomer.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1998Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: DSM Desotech, Inc.Inventor: David M. Patent number: 6087533Abstract: A process for the carbonylation of allylic butenol or butenyl ester of a carboxylic acid (e.g., crotyl acetate, 3-acetoxybutene-1 and mixtures thereof) in an anhydrous carboxylic acid solvent and production of beta-gamma unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride (e.g., 3-pentenoic acid anhydride) utilizing a rhodium-containing catalyst (e.g., dicarbonylacetylacetonate rhodium(I)) promoted with a metal iodide (e.g., dicarbonylacetylacetonate rhodium(I), or the like). The following representative reaction showing a crotyl ester (i.e., a carboxylic acid ester of 2-buten-1-ol) as the reactant producing a corresponding pentenoic acid anhydride is illustrative of the overall carbonylation. ##STR1## Suitable allylic compounds are of the form ##STR2## where one of the groups R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 is methyl and the other two groups are H and wherein R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of H and ##STR3## wherein R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of a C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 alkyl.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1998Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignees: E I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, DSM Desotech Inc.Inventor: Patrick Michael Burke
