Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of high-molecular-weight polytetramethylene adipamide from equivalent amounts of 1,4-diaminobutane and adipic acid at lower pressures. By supplying 1,4-diaminobutane at an advanced stage of the polycondensation a first polycondensate is obtained that can be extruded very well and that can be aftercondensed in the solid phase to obtain a product with a high molecular weight within a short time. Because of this a substantial overall gain in time is realized. It even appears to be possible to prepare a first polycondensate with a relative viscosity that is high enough for the polycondensate to be further processed into shaped objects. The polycondensation can be carried out both in the melt and in solution. The diaminobutane can be supplied both via the liquid and via the vapour phase.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a reaction injection molding process, to a composition utilized therein as well as to a kit of parts from which the composition can be obtained. In particular, the process includes the use of a composition which contains at least 70% of low molecular weight compounds which are capable of forming a crosslinked polymer. The first component of the composition is a compound with at least an ethylenic unsaturation and an isocyanate-reactive group. The second component of the composition contains an ethylenically unsaturated monomer capable of copolymerizing with the first component. The third component of the composition is a polyisocyanate. Polymerization of the first and second components takes places prior to the reaction between the first and third components.
Abstract: A process for the preparation and processing of a hydroxylammonium salt solution involves maintaining an aqueous acid reaction medium circulation between a hydroxylammonium salt synthesis zone and an oxime synthesis zone; continuously supplying nitrate ions or nitrogen oxides to be converted into nitrate, by way of nitrogen source for the formation of the hydroxylammonium salt, to the liquid being maintained in circulation; catalytically reducing the nitrate ions with hydrogen to obtain hydroxylamine; removing the ammonium ions, formed as a by-product in the reduction of the nitrate ions, by contacting the circulating liquid with a gas flow consisting of nitrogen oxides generated in catalytic combustion of ammonia. Advantageously, 0.01 to 5 wt. % of the nitrogen oxides formed in the combustion effect reduction of the ammonium ions to nitrogen, and the remainder of the nitrogen oxides are used for the preparation of nitric acid.

Abstract: Method for the preparation of a polymeric shaped article containing an electrically conductive polymer wherein a base shaped article possessing electrically conductive properties is moved along an anode, at least part of the article being in contact with the anode, in the presence of an electrolyte-containing medium containing monomer units, which on polymerization form an electrically conductive polymer and wherein a voltage is applied between the anode and a second electrode which is in contact with the electrolyte-containing medium. It has appeared that, in the method according to the invention, the shaped article does not adhere to the electrode so that the method may be practiced continuously. A further advantage of the shaped article failing to adhere to the electrode is that the method according to the invention generates very little waste.

Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst that is very suitable for the conversion of a benzoic acid into the corresponding benzaldehyde. The catalyst can be obtained via coprecipitation of a manganese salt, a salt from which an acid support is formed, a zinc salt and optionally a copper salt at a pH between 4 and 10, calcination, after precipitation, of the coprecipitate at a temperature of between 300 and 700.degree. C. and then, optionally, reduction of the calcined coprecipitate with the aid of a hydrogen-containing gas mixture. Using such a catalyst the hydrogenation of a benzoic acid can be carried out at lower temperature resulting in energy-savings and, hence, cost-savings.
