Patent number: 11046476Abstract: A latchable package comprises: a support (200) for supporting one or more items; a structure (300) for selectively blocking access to the one or more items; and a latchable insert (400). The latchable insert comprises a substantially planar tab member that is coupled to the support such that the insert and support are movable together in an opening direction from a first position in which the structure blocks access to the one or more items to a second position in which the one or more items are accessibly clear of the structure. The structure and the latchable insert comprise co-operating latch features (380) configured to engage when the insert and support are arranged in the first position.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2019Date of Patent: June 29, 2021Assignee: Duff Design LimitedInventor: Dane Whitehurst

Publication number: 20170210531Abstract: A tab member for use in a latchable slidable package. The tab member has opposed major faces connected by opposed side edges and comprises a body portion and a cut out defining a resiliently deformable latch member connected to the body portion by at least one live hinge. The latch member incorporates a latch formation that is moveable by a user in an unlatching direction substantially orthogonal to at least one side edge. The tab member is substantially planar, and the unlatching direction lies substantially in a plane of the tab member. The tab member can be incorporated into a latchable slidable package to provide child resistance by virtue of the latch member and the latch formation. The substantially planar nature of the tab member means that the tab member can be easily accommodated in the package.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2014Publication date: July 27, 2017Applicant: Duff Design LimitedInventors: Alexander Parker, Burgo Wharton

Patent number: 8490368Abstract: Methods are disclosed for making a band-driven package or a band-drive component for a package, and machines for performing the methods. One method comprises feeding first and second flexible webs in a feed direction, one web being fed each side of a substrate such that the webs are in mutual face-to-face disposition ahead of and behind the substrate with respect to the feed direction; joining the face-to-face webs at a first join ahead of the substrate and at a second join behind the substrate, the joins bounding web portions that together encircle the substrate between the joins; and dividing the joined web portions from the remainder of the webs such that the joined web portions together define a band that encircles the substrate, to be slid around the substrate in use of the package.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2010Date of Patent: July 23, 2013Assignee: Duff Design LimitedInventors: Timothy Michael Wood, Adrian James David Howson, Ian Dunckley, Cyrille Fuellemann, Alfred Wipf, Daniel Kummer

Patent number: 8453840Abstract: A child-resistant package includes a support for supporting hazardous material in use; a structure for selectively blocking access to hazardous material supported by the support, with the support being movable between a secured position in which access to the hazardous material is blocked and an access position in which the hazardous material is accessibly clear of the structure; at least one latch member movable between an engaged state and a disengaged state in which the support is allowed to move out of the secured position toward the access position; and a tab member movable with respect to the structure in a second direction different to the first direction, the tab member being coupled to the support to effect movement of the support out of the secured position in the first direction when the latch member is in the disengaged state.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2008Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: Duff Design LimitedInventor: Burgo John Wharton

Patent number: 8225931Abstract: A package (10) comprising a belt (42) extending between a first end (37) and a second end (39) of a belt path; and first and second tab members (14, 16) attached to the belt (42) such that when the first tab member (14) is moved in a first direction, the second tab member (16) is driven by the belt (42) to move in a second direction different to the first direction. The tab members (14, 16) are attached to the belt (42) by respective bonds (45, 46), the movement of the tab members (14, 16) in either direction being delimited by at least one bond reaching an end of the belt path; and when at least one of the tab members is in a closed position, said bond is positioned inwardly from the ends of the belt path so that said tab member can move in both the first and second directions from the closed position before the bond reaches an end of the belt path to delimit said movement.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2007Date of Patent: July 24, 2012Assignee: Duff Design LimitedInventor: Burgo Wharton

Patent number: 8191710Abstract: A container (12) suitable for use in packaging pharmaceutical products such as tablets and capsules. The container (12) can be withdrawn from a box or sleeve (14) in a first direction X to a fully extended position whereby a user can remove any item stored by the container (12). The container (12) has a base (32) which includes an end portion (40) that remains substantially within the box or sleeve (14) when in the fully extended position. The base (32) carries at least one chamber formation (42) for containing an item to be removed by the user. The base (32) also has at least one stabilizing formation (44) on the end portion (40) that interacts with the box or sleeve (14) when in the fully extended position to resist pivoting of the container (12) relative to the box or sleeve (14). The or each stabilizing formation (44) differs in size and/or shape to the or each chamber formation (42), and has a length in the first direction X that is greater than or equal to its width in a second direction Y.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2008Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Duff Design LimitedInventor: Tim Clarke

Patent number: 6557700Abstract: A box for use in packaging comprises a tubular sleeve (10) defining a through passage, a planar divider (12) extending across the passage, a drive belt (50) which passes around the divider, a tray (40) and a pull-out tab member (41) each extending into the passage and attached to the drive belt. In the closed position the tray (40) and tab member (41) are fully inside the tubular sleeve. When the tab member (41) is pulled out of the sleeve (10) in a first direction, the drive belt (50) is forced to slide around the divider and the tray (40) moves out of the sleeve (10) in the opposite direction. The tray (40) can be used to house any consumer product, for example CDs, confectionery, pharmaceuticals. The tab member (41) can be used to convey information to the consumer.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: Duff Design LimitedInventor: Burgo Wharton
