Abstract: Clamp assemblies and systems for mounting solar panels to mounting units are presented. For instance, a clamp assembly for clamping a solar panel includes a clamp portion and a lever portion. The clamp portion includes at least one tooth for clamping onto a first flange of the solar panel. The lever portion is spaced apart from the clamp portion and include a cam and a guard. The cam includes a rounded surface and a flat surface. Each of the clamp portion and the lever portion comprise an opening for receiving a pivoting element. The opening is generally aligned when the clamp portion and the lever portion are fitted together. Upon rotation of the lever portion, the cam urges the clamp portion into a clamped condition.

  • Publication number: 20150214884
Abstract: The present invention comprises a stackable ballasted roof mounting solar panel mount unit integrally formed into a single piece. The mount unit comprises a plurality of generally elevated side walls of a ballast receiving basket. Each of the generally elevated side walls taper upward and inward from a generally downward facing peripheral edge to an apex ridge of the wall. The generally elevated side walls taper downward and inward from the apex ridge of the wall. The side wall further extends inward from the base of the inner face to form a ballast supporting basket lip. Each side walls defines a downwardly facing open channel that is configured to receive a corresponding side wall from a corresponding solar panel mount in a stacking relation. The mount unit further comprises a plurality of stackable posts that extend upward from the peripheral edge to the top of the first pair of posts at a first predetermined height above the generally elevated side wall.

  • Patent number: 8813441
Abstract: In one embodiment, there is a mount for a pitched roof. The mount comprises a fastening plate. The fastening plate includes at least one support extending upwardly from the fastening plate to support a pair of mounting surfaces a predetermined distance above the pitched roof. At least a portion of the fastening plate extends laterally from the one or more supports. The pair of mounting surfaces is configured to support at least one photovoltaic panel. The mount further includes a clamp housing between the pair of mounting surfaces and receives a clamp. The clamp comprises a pair of laterally extending clamp plates and at least one clamp stabilizer configured to prevent the clamp plate from tilting when the clamping force is applied.

  • Publication number: 20140220834
Abstract: The present invention is a clip and related grounding device. The grounding device has a wire connected to two clips at either end. Each clip is configured to be attached to the frame of a solar panel. The device eliminates fasteners that require bolts or screw to make a sufficient electrical connection between the panel frames. Because the grounding connects frame to frame, it is not necessary to ensure that the frames have a grounding connection to the underlying solar panel mounting system. This enables use of mounting systems that do not conduct electricity. The grounding device is has sufficient gripping strength that the anchoring teeth penetrate through paint, oxidized coating, or annealed finish to create an electrical connection.

  • Publication number: 20130227833
Abstract: The present invention is a locking pin that takes advantage of a simpler manufacturing process, fewer parts to effectively lock the pin onto an object. The locking pin is in one embodiment for fastening an object by means of an object hole of a predetermined object hole diameter to the pin. The pin comprises an elongated shaft having a forward end and a rearward end with a pinhead at the rearward end. A pair of laterally opposed notches formed at a predetermined location along the length of the shaft. The portion of the shaft between the pair of laterally opposed notches is defined for reference purpose as the lock base. A forward hole and at least one rearward hole that extends through the lock base proximal to the forward end of the lock base. A wire lock is made of a spring-biased wire that is bendable upon compression and returns to its original shape. The wire lock is received into the forward hole and rearward hole.
