The housing includes a first compartment and a second compartment, a chemo-resistive analysis assembly having a substrate coupled to a sensor array and disposed within the first compartment, the substrate being operably connected to a voltage control unit coupled to the housing to heat the sensor array to a desired temperature, a resistance control unit coupled to the housing to measure resistance in the sensor array, an optical analysis assembly having a light-emitting diode array and a photodiode array coupled to the second compartment, and a processor coupled to the housing and operably connected to the chemo-resistive analysis and optical analysis assemblies.

    Abstract: A gas-sensing apparatus with a self-powered microheater to reduce power usage and enhance efficiency when determining a presence of one or more gases in an air sample is provided. The gas-sensing apparatus includes a substrate, a sensing layer coupled to the substrate, and a heater element connected to the sensing layer and having at least one sheet. The sheet is made from a homogenous mixture of zinc powder and activated carbon. Oxygen from ambient air interacts with zinc ions in the zinc powder in an exothermic reaction to generate heat energy for use in heating the sensing layer to a desired temperature, thereby permitting the sensing layer at the desired temperature to detect the presence or ratio of the one or more gases in the air sample.

The system includes a base unit housing affixed to a cover for use with a medication container, the base unit housing having a micro-electro-mechanical system able to detect motion of the cover and determine when the user removes the cover from the medication container, a computing device to generate the medication use data based on information from the micro-electro-mechanical system, and a communication system to transmit the medication use data to a cloud computer via the network, thereby providing the at least one party of interest access to the cloud computer and the medication use data.
