  • Patent number: 6420481
Abstract: A multiphase polymer composition having increased impact resistance at low temperatures, includes a blend of an ionomer dispersed in nylon 6, a polyamide other than nylon 6, and a composition that includes EP or EPDM grafted with 0.05 to 3 weight percent of a carboxylic acid or any anhydride thereof. The ionomer is formed from a partially neutralized acid copolymer precursor, the acid copolymer precursor having polymerized in-chain units derived from the monomers comprising: (a) ethylene, (b) 2 to 25 weight percent of (meth)acrylic acid, (c) 0.1 to 15 weight percent of a dicarboxylic acid monomer, (d) 0-40 weight percent of a C1-C8-alkyl alkyl acrylate, the ionomer being formed by neutralization of from about 5 to 90 percent of the total number of carboxylic acid units in the copolymer with metal ions.

  • Patent number: 6331606
Abstract: A composition and a process for producing the composition are provided. The composition comprises repeat units derived from 1,3-propanediol; an organic acid, preferably a dicarboxylic acid, its salt, its ester, or combinations of two or more thereof; a polyether diol; and a sulfonated comonomer. The polyether diol can be present in the composition in the range of from about 10 to about 80 weight %. The process comprises contacting 1,3-propanediol with the organic acid, the polyether diol, and the sulfonated comonomer. The sulfonated comonomer can have the formula of (R′OC(O))2A(R)zS(O)2OM in which each R′ can be the same or different and is each independently hydrogen, a C1 to C4 alkyl group, or a C1 to C4 hydroxyalkyl group; each R is independently a C1 to C4 alkyl group; A is an alkylene or arylene group; z is a number of from 0 to 2; and M is hydrogen, alkali metal ion, alkaline earth metal ion, quaternary ammonium, or ammonium ion.

  • Patent number: 5268354
Abstract: A process making thin film elements of an oxide superconductor (Tl..sub.5 Pb.sub.0.5)Sr.sub.2 CaCu.sub.2 O.sub.7, (Tl..sub.5 Pb.sub.0.5)Sr.sub.2 Ca.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.9 or a mixture thereof. The process entails forming an oxide film of a mixture of oxides of Pb, Sr, Ca and Cu in preselected amounts, placing the oxide film in a container of nonreactive metal such as gold that contains a powder of (Tl..sub.5 Pb.sub.0.5)Sr.sub.2 Ca.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.9 superconductor, sealing the container, and heating the sealed container to a temperature of about 820.degree.
