Abstract: Primary and auxiliary lens assemblies are provided that allow a wearer easy usage with a reduced risk of misalignment or detachment through the use of micromagnets. Conventional magnetic auxiliary lens assemblies are typically not compatible with frameless or rimless designs. The improved assemblies disclosed herein employ magnets embedded in either or both of the auxiliary lens assemblies and the bushings of the primary lens assemblies.

Abstract: The improved eyewear assemblies disclosed herein employ magnetically attractable inserts fitted within a primary lens assembly, which allow for increased usage of plastics in eyewear design. The ability to employ various plastics or composites allows for increased flexibility in design as well as an overall reduction in cost. Thus, the eyewear assembly provides a system that is both stable and easy to use as well as aesthetically pleasing, filling a long-felt need in the industry.

Conventional magnetic auxiliary lens assemblies are difficult to manufacture and functionally limited due to the limitations of conventional magnets and the composition of the auxiliary frames. The improved lens assemblies disclosed herein instead employ high strength micromagnets advantageously aligned and embedded in the auxiliary lens frame to improve the ease and reliability of coupling to a primary frame, and to provide aesthetic and functional advantageous over the known art.

Abstract: An eyewear assembly comprises a primary lens assembly including a primary frame that secures a pair of primary lenses in position relative to one another. A pair of extensions is provided, each of the extensions positioned on an outer periphery of the primary frame. An arm is connected to each extension by a hinge. A safety shield is carried by the eyewear assembly and extends around a portion of the periphery of one of the primary lenses and extends longitudinally along one of the arms, wherein an open space between the primary lens, the arm, and an eye of the wearer is substantially enclosed. The safety shield has an aperture formed therein that extends from the primary lens rearward proximal the hinge, wherein the aperture is adapted to receive a portion of an auxiliary lens assembly.

Abstract: The present invention relates to eyewear, and in particular, for a single block assembly having multiple slots and reliefs in substantial alignment for accommodation of a flange for lens attachment, a flange for arm attachment, a magnet location, and an accessory slot. The accessory slot can accommodate attachment of a variety of accessories, including a pivotal auxiliary lens assembly, a stationary auxiliary lens assembly, or a tether cord. The single block design provides a reduced profile which allows the frame to accommodate wider lenses for improved peripheral visibility and improved appearance.

Abstract: The present invention relates to eyewear, and in particular, to a design for a primary lens assembly combinable with a secondary lens assembly. The primary lens assembly has a slotted extension design. The auxiliary lens assembly has extensions insertable into the slots of the primary extensions. The auxiliary lens assembly is horizontally insertable into the primary lens assembly. The primary and/or auxiliary lens assemblies may have magnets. Alternatively, the primary and/or auxiliary lens assemblies may have compressible bushings to permit an interference fit of the assemblies. The design permits easier attachment and prohibits undesired disengagement of auxiliary lens assembly from primary frame assembly.
