Abstract: Anisotropic compounds of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein ##STR2## is selected from the group consisting of ##STR3## Z represents a covalent bond or a carboxyl group --C(O)O--, R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, and C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkoxy and X.sup.2 and X.sup.3 may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and nitrile, with the proviso that at least one of the groups X.sup.2 and X.sup.3 is not hydrogen, are useful as components of liquid crystal mixtures for elektrooptical twist cells.
Abstract: Isoquinolines of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is H, OH, alkyl; R.sup.2 is H, or an unsubstituted or substituted carbonyl, carbonyloxy or thiocarbonyl group; R.sup.3 is H, alkyl or hydroxy alkyl; R.sup.4 is H, alkyl or phenyl; R.sup.5 is O, H,H or H and alkyl, phenyl, halo or hydroxy; R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are optional substituents; and R.sup.8 is H or alkyl, R.sup.2 being a thiocarbonyl or carbonyloxy group when R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 to R.sup.8 are H and X is O; and their physiologically acceptable salts, are antihelmintics, especially against cestodes and trematodes; some also possessing CNS activity, e.g., psychotropic and blood pressure regulating activity.

Abstract: Powdery pearlescent pigment compositions comprising individual particles of a flaky nacreous pigment coated with 1 to 50 weight percent of a solid polymer, optionally containing wetting agents, fillers, additional coloring agents, UV-absorbers or scenting agents, are produced by combining a suspension of a flaky nacreous pigment with a solution of a polymer, possibly containing other substances, and subsequently depositing polymer on the pigment flakes. The compositions can be used as pigments in cosmetics and can be stored and shipped as dry powders without loss of properties.

Abstract: In colorimetric indicators comprising a carrier such as cellulose saturated with one or more azo dyes having reactive groups capable of forming a chemical bond with the carrier material, the improvement wherein the indicator is made non-bleeding by using such dyes which, in addition to the reactive group, contain at least one additional sulfonic acid and/or carboxylic acid group, an example of such a dye being 4-anilino-3'-(2-hydroxysulfonyloxyethylsulfonyl)-azobenzene-6'-carboxylic acid.
