Abstract: A method and system for delivering advice to patients suffering from respiratory conditions based on changes in environment, such as weather or air quality changes. This system includes a patient specific model which uses input environmental data to predict changes in the patient's condition. The model is developed from an analysis of patient's responses to a variety of environmental triggers, and can be refined with time. The model can include only those specific triggers appropriate to a patient, can include the delay between the change in environment and change in condition of the patient, and can be run with data which is geographically localized to the patient's location. Conveniently the models can be run on personal devices held by the patients, such as mobile telephones, which are in communication with a server and/or a provider of environmental data.

  • Publication number: 20060136266
Abstract: A repeat prescription ordering system for allowing patients requiring resupply of medication or medical products to access a server using a portable communications and data processing device such as a smart phone or personal digital assistant. The server supplies to the patient a list of medication and medical products which they are authorized to order. The patient can select the products required, and the order is logged by the server and allocated to a supplier for completion of the order. The server maintains an estimate of the amount of medication or medical product held by the patient, this being based on the prescribed dosage regimen and information entered by the patient on their usage and, optionally, on checks on their own health. The patient may be alerted when the estimate indicates that their supplies are running low. The estimate is allowed to go below zero, this implying a possible departure from the prescribed medication regimen.

  • Publication number: 20060036134
Abstract: A telemedicine system for monitoring chronic conditions such as asthma or diabetes includes an electronic measurement device such as an electronic peak expiratory flow meter or an electronic blood glucose meter, connected to a GPRS cellular telephone. The cellular telephone automatically receives, formats and transmits the data on acquisition by the medical device to a remote server. The server may acknowledge the data and make the data available to a clinician. The server may also analyse the data and provide automatic alerts to the patient and/or clinician in the event of the data causing concern. The formatting and transmission of the data from the telephone to the server occurs in real time as the measurements are taken and is invisible to the patient.
