Abstract: A method of adding a value to a customer account is provided. A request to add a value to a customer account of a customer is received from a point of sale terminal. The request may comprise value identification data associated with the value and account identification data associated with the customer account. The customer account identification data may be entered at the point of sale. The request may be associated with a purchase of the value. The value may be caused to be added to the customer account. During subsequent value purchase transactions, additional value may be added to the account.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system for creating an enhanced online gifting experience that allows a purchaser to enter information identifying a gift recipient as well as text, sound, images or video relevant to the gift recipient and/or to an event. The system uses this information to create a personalized webpage identified and located via a personal uniform resource locator (PURL) associated with the gift recipient.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems and methods of activating an electronic device at a point-of-sale (POS). The device may be identified by an indicia and activation may occur following purchase of the device. The method may include the steps of receiving at a central processor from the POS the indicia identifying the device purchased at the POS; enabling by the central processor a feature or functionality of the device or use of the device; and conveying to the device information material to the feature, functionality, or use. The system may include a central processor that activates the device. The central processor may include various interfaces with the POS, provider, and device, as well as a database with records related to the device and an activation processor for determining if activation is appropriate, activating the device, and sending information material to the feature, functionality, or use to the device.

Abstract: A non-serialized electronic product registration (ER) system and method which enables return qualification information to be provided upon request for non-serialized products. Retailer specific return policies are enforced by providing the ER system with retailer return policies for UPCs, SKUs, model numbers and/or other non-unique product identifiers. The retailer periodically provides information to the ER system that indicates the last date on which products having a particular non-unique identifier have been sold. The ER system then determine the last date on which such products can be returned and provides non-serialized return qualification information to the retailer upon request.

Abstract: The present invention is generally directed towards a card and package assembly and methods of making the same. Card and package assemblies in accordance with some embodiments of the present invention may include a package, a data card, the data card packaged at least in part within the package, and an activation indicia, the activation indicia comprising a first portion printed on the package and a second portion printed on the data card. Abstract: Certain exemplary embodiments described herein relate to the field of electronic registration (ER) of purchased products and, more particularly, to improved electronic registration techniques purchase-side and/or return-side handling of recalled items. Certain exemplary embodiments on the purchase-side may help to filter-out products that have recalled been before they are purchased. Certain exemplary embodiments on the return-side may help enable recall return overrides, thus facilitating the acceptance of recalled products even though they might not qualify under an original return/warranty policy. Advantageously, more and more recalled products may be filtered out of circulation through the use of purchase-side and/or return-side recall watch list checking techniques of certain exemplary embodiments. Such purchase-side and/or return-side recall watch list checking may be performed together with or separate from electronic registration techniques in different exemplary embodiments.

Abstract: The invention is generally directed to methods of conducting transactions using a dual function card that is transacted amongst a processor in communication with a point of sale: receiving a message including: an indicia of the card and identifiers of goods; identifying a closed loop account and amount, a schedule of eligible goods, and an open loop account and amount; determining eligible goods and a purchase amount; comparing the purchase amount to the amount in the closed loop account, and if the purchase amount is less than or equal to value in the closed loop account, authorizing the transaction. Upon a determination that the purchase amount is less than the amount in the closed loop account, determining if the value in the open loop account is greater than or equal to the deficit, and if so, deducting all value from the closed loop account and the deficit from the open loop account.

Abstract: Certain exemplary embodiments relate to techniques for determining the correct item serial number structure, even when information regarding the serial number data and/or structure is lacking. Such techniques advantageously promote data integrity by helping to ensure that the desired data is captured correctly, while also reducing (and sometimes even eliminating) the need to obtain detailed information regarding serial number structure and intelligence that sometimes is guarded by producers/manufacturers. Statistical sampling of collected unknown data formats may be used to help decipher product identification numbers (or other numbers) such as product serial numbers through a repetitive process of scanning a known constant such as the UPC number, followed by a variable number such as a products serial number. Certain exemplary embodiments check serial number against a database containing algorithms to determine if and which algorithm is used to create such serial numbers.

Abstract: Certain exemplary embodiments relate to techniques for order processing. A data feed including unique identifiers of purchased products, together with pairs of order numbers and product identifiers for products ordered from, but not delivered by, a store, is received at an electronic registration system. For each entry therein, a corresponding record in an ER database is created, and a message is transmitted to a supplier of an ordered product indicating that payment has been received for that product when it is determined that the entry is a corresponding order number/product identifier pair. This determination may be based on different masks used in creating a part of the unique identifier, and the order number, respectively. An indication that a product has been or is being shipped, along with a serial number for that product, is received from the supplier, and the ER database is updated as appropriate.

Abstract: An electronic registration system facilitates authorized product returns. A retailer sales associate is prompted to enter individual product identification information such as an individual serial number. This individual product identification information is stored in a database, along with the date on which the product was sold and an appropriate UPC code, SKU number, or manufacturer code. A check digit algorithm may be used to verify the serial number prior to storage. A sales receipt may be imprinted with at least the date of the transaction and the serial number. When a product is returned, the retailer may cross-reference the serial number on the product with that on the receipt to verify the sales receipt. Otherwise, the database may be searched for sales information. A customer may also access a return authorization engine via the Internet to obtain return approval, an authorization number, return instructions, etc.

Abstract: A system and method for adding value to a customer account are provided. An identifier associated with a value is distributed to a customer. The identifier is usable to add the value to an account. A request to add the value to a customer account is received via short message service (SMS). The request comprises the identifier and account identification information associated with the customer account. In some embodiments, the identifier may be entered into the device using text auto-completion software. The request is received from a user communication device as an SMS message. The value associated with the identifier and the customer account associated with the account identification number are identified based on the request. The value is caused to be added to the customer account. A confirmation that the value was added to the customer account is passed to the user communication device.

Abstract: The present invention is generally directed to methods of manufacturing data card assemblies. These methods generally comprise manufacturing or purchasing a data card comprising a special number, wherein the special number is associated with a particular data card account; packaging the data cards in a package such that the special number is visible; generating activation information; reading the special number on the data card; recording the activation information on the package; and associating the special number with the particular activation information recorded on the package. Some embodiments of the present invention may further comprise conveying the association between the activation information and the special number to an intermediary managing the data card accounts. Some embodiments of the present invention may further comprise generating a special number associated with a particular data card account; and generating activation information associated with a particular special number.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for managing a digital wallet on behalf of a user. A user causes one or more value-ascertainable items (such as gift cards) to be reflected in the user's digital wallet. Once a value-ascertainable item is reflected in the digital wallet, the user may access the digital wallet and use the value-ascertainable item to make a purchase from a merchant that is capable of redeeming the value-ascertainable item. Alternatively, an exchange service that maintains the digital wallet allows the user to exchange the value-ascertainable item for another value-ascertainable item, whether of the same type item or a different type of item. The exchanged-for item may be used to make a purchase from a merchant that is capable of redeeming the exchanged-for item.
