  • Patent number: 6000066
Abstract: The exercise helmet of the present invention includes an outer shell which would preferably be constructed of a sturdy plastic, and an inner shell which would function as an impact absorbing liner. Support plates are provided at the sides of the helmet to support shafts which extend outwardly from the support plates. Weighted plates may be placed on the shafts to provide resistance for exercise when the helmet is worn. A yoke accessory is provided for attachment to a cable of a conventional weight machine, for providing resistance instead of the weighted plates. An adjustable chin strap is provided for securing the helmet more securely to a wearer's head, and for increasing the exercise effect on facial muscles.

  • Patent number: 6002698
Abstract: A high-linearity light source comprising a first semiconductor diode (e.g., a light-source diode such as a laser diode or a light-emitting diode, or a light-receiving diode such as a photodetector) and a nonlinearity compensation network with a second, compensation, semiconductor diode is provided. The first and second diodes are connected in an antiparallel configuration with either an A.C. signal source (for light emission) or a load (for light receiving) and in separated D.C. bias paths.By varying the relative biasing of the diodes (e.g., using a variable resistor in series with a diode), the capacitance of the combination of diodes cancels, and the linearity of the system improves. With a properly biased compensation diode the even-order nonlinearity distortion can be cancelled completely.

  • Patent number: 5999848
Abstract: An implantable sensor/stimulator is connectable to a controller using just two conductors, which two conductors carry both operating power and data (data commands and/or measured data) between the sensor/stimulator and control circuit. Each sensor/stimulator may be serially connected to another sensor/stimulator, again using only two conductors, thereby allowing a "daisy chain" of such sensors/stimulators to be formed. Each sensor/stimulator in the daisy chain is individually addressable by the control circuit. Input data is sent to the sensors over the two conductors using a phase-modulated biphasic modulation scheme, which scheme also provides operating power for each sensor/stimulator connected to the two conductors. Output data is sent from the sensors to the controller over the same two conductors using a pulse-position presence/absence modulation scheme. The data transmission schemes provide a very high signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Patent number: 5998749
Abstract: A single pole, snap action, sump pump switch is disclosed having a housing containing a single electrically conductive contact arm with a contact mounted on a forward end portion, which arm is pivotally movable between on and off positions. The contact arm contains a pair of pivot tabs projecting from opposite sides on a rear end portion thereof, which pivot tabs fit within rearwardly opening, triangularly shaped notches on a U-shaped terminal. The notches form a fulcrum about which the contact arm rocks through the U-shaped member when switching between the on and off positions. An actuator arm is pivotally mounted between a pair of shoulders formed on opposing sidewalls within the housing and projects out of a rear end of the housing for connection to a float bulb assembly. A forward end of the actuator arm fits within a recess in one end of a pivot bushing.

  • Patent number: 5999849
Abstract: A low power switched rectifier circuit is realized using P-MOS and N-MOS FET switches that are turned ON/OFF at just the right time by a detector and inverter circuit (which form an integral part of the rectifier circuit) to rectify an incoming ac signal in a highly efficient manner. Parasitic diodes and transistors that form an integral part of the FET circuitry respond to and rectify the incoming signal during start up, i.e., when no supply voltage is yet present, thereby providing sufficient operating voltage for the FET switches to begin to perform their intended rectifying function. In the absence of an incoming ac signal, i.e., during the time between biphasic pulses, the rectifier circuit is biased with an extremely small static bias current; but in the presence of an incoming ac signal, at a time when the positive and negative phases of the incoming signal are to be connected to positive and negative supply lines, a much larger dynamic bias current is automatically triggered.

  • Patent number: 5997163
Abstract: A vehicle mounted laser spotlight system employs a coherent/incoherent spotlight as a light source to produce an eyesafe light dispersion pattern to illuminate an ambient environment. The laser spotlight system includes an integrated laser unit having an integrated laser, power supply and control unit for selectively transmitting coherent light. A fiber optic cable optically couples the laser unit to a spotlight which receives the coherent light from the laser and transmits a beam of coherent light into the ambient environment. An incoherent light transmitter selectively transmits a beam of incoherent light coincident with the beam of coherent light. A converter module may be disposed intermediate the laser and the spotlight to convert the frequency and wavelength of the coherent light.

  • Patent number: 5999669
Abstract: Optic switches manipulate an optical signal that has been expanded by a collimating lens. Switching is effected by introducing a prism between collimating lenses to redirect the optical signal to an alternative lens. The prism preferably has a cross-section defining a parallelogram, so that the optical signal is reflected twice within the prism to minimize cross-sectional distortion and avoid spectral effects. A circuit provides feedback on the actual position of the relay and prism for fault detection and diagnosis.

  • Patent number: 5996293
Abstract: A window buck is formed of side walls that are extruded from vinyl. The side walls have interior channels. The side walls may be formed to effect a female-male connection between the ends of two adjoining side walls. Alternatively a locking member is provided that is sized to frictionally engage a selected channel. The edges of the side members are shaped for abutment to each other with a connector in the channels to hold the window buck together. The window buck thereafter may be placed before the cement wall is formed and is sized to receive a window frame. The window buck may be formed into selected geometric shapes. Window bucks of different dimensions may be assembled by selected sides of different dimensions from bins or pallets of presized side members.
