Abstract: Methods and devices for detecting sites of low optical reflectivity from optical coherence tomography, OCT, of the retina are provided. The method includes segmenting retinal layers from OCT data, calculating optical reflectivity of each segmented retinal layers from the OCT data, and detecting sites of low optical reflectivity from the calculated optical reflectivity of the segmented retinal layers. The calculated optical reflectivity can be compared against a predetermined threshold obtained from a healthy population. Segmenting can be carried out according to the optical reflectivity of each identified retinal layer. OCT-Microangiography data can be displayed side-by-side or superimposed with the enface images of the calculated optical reflectivity. The device can be combined with OCT equipment, in particular for displaying the detected sites of low optical reflectivity.

Abstract: According to the invention, an electrolyte is provided for an alkali-sulfur battery. An alkali-sulfur battery is also provided, which contains the electrolyte according to the invention. The electrolyte according to the invention contains a mixture of a sulfone and a fluorine-containing ether in a volume ratio of #1:4 (v:v). Through the use of said electrolyte, the shuttling of polysulfide species from the cathode to the anode can be effectively suppressed, without the use of LiNO3. Through the electrolyte in alkalisulfur batteries, a high coulombic efficiency, long-term stability (low self-discharge) and cycle durability can be achieved even without the use of LiNO3. Coloumbic efficiency, long-term stability and cycle durability can be further improved through the use of a cathode which contains an additive for uniform distribution of polysulfide inside the cathode. In addition, uses of components of the alkali-sulfur battery according to the invention are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system for quantitative detection and analysis of the interactions of molecules with molecular receptors on the surfaces of biological cells based on detecting a mechanical deformation in the membrane of a cell associated with the molecular interactions, which works for both large and small molecules. The mechanical deformation can be detected with high precision in real time from an optical image of the cell with a differential detection method. The system can be also used to detect the electrical activities, such as ion channel opening and closing, as well as action potential propagation in neuronal cells.

Abstract: A method includes estimating a spatial coherence between a first diffuse sound portion in a first microphone signal and a second diffuse sound portion in a second microphone signal. The first microphone signal is captured by a first microphone and the second microphone signal is captured by a second microphone which is spaced apart from the first microphone in a known manner. The method further includes defining a linear constraint for filter coefficients of a diffuse sound filter, the linear constraint being based on the spatial coherence. The method also includes calculating at least one of signal statistics and noise statistics over the first microphone signal and the second microphone signal. The method also includes determining the filter coefficients of the diffuse sound filter by solving an optimization problem concerning at least one of the signal statistics and noise statistics while considering the linear constraint for the filter coefficients.
