Abstract: The invention relates to a light emitter, such as an LED sealed with a resin, in particular, an LED wherein irregularities in a surface of a sealing resin can be formed through a simpler process in order to improve the light output efficiency of the LED. The LED is an LED wherein a liquid sealing resin is mixed with a solid transparent resin different from the sealing resin in specific gravity and subsequently the mixture is injected into a package into which an LED chip is integrated and then cured, thereby sealing the chip, characterized in that the solid transparent resin is fixed to the sealing resin to be partially naked to the sealing-resin-side surface of the LED through which light from the LED chip is emitted to the outside, and be partially embedded in the sealing resin, thereby being projected into the form of convexes. This LED is used for an LED displayer, an LCD backlight source, a lighting device or the like.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for improving hydrocarbon-water compatibility. More specifically, the invention relates to methods for enhancing the production of surface-active agents in hydrocarbon-exposed surface waters in order to improve hydrocarbon-water compatibility. Hydrocarbon-exposed surface waters having enhanced levels of surface-active agents can be used to improve remediation of subsurface hydrocarbon-contaminated sites.
Abstract: The invention provides an ink for inkjet printing, comprising a self-dispersing pigment colorant and a bleed control agent selected from the group consisting of catechol, 4-methylcatechol and any combination thereof. The ink advantageously exhibits reduced intercolor bleed when printed, for example, on plain paper.

Abstract: A rapid and efficient method for novel biological substance screening by surface analysis has been developed using Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). This method relies on the surface screening of an array of micro-organisms grown on porous membranes, which had previously been in contact with a solid growth medium. ToF-SIMS analysis differentiates among organisms producing different substances, either directly as molecular product, or indirectly through the use of multivariate statistical data reduction techniques. This method has many advantages over traditional microbial screening methods, which require sample preparation and time for assay development.
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions of ethylene acid copolymers and EVOH that are useful for fabricating films, sheets and other shaped articles such as tubing, bottle, fuel tank, tray etc. comprising (1) an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer; and (2) a copolymer comprising in-chain copolymerized units of (a) in-chain copolymerized units of ethylene; (b) in-chain polymerized units of an ?,?-unsaturated C3-C8 carboxylic acid; (c) in-chain polymerized units of at least one comonomer that is an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or derivative thereof; and optionally (d) in-chain copolymerized units of alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate, and wherein the carboxylic acid functionalities present are at least partially neutralized by one or more alkali metal, transition metal, or alkaline earth metal cations. The compositions can be used for packaging of foodstuffs, medical solutions and industrial chemicals.
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel photoresist compositions and processes for preparing the same utilizing polymers having a low polydispersity via the use of certain chain transfer agents (CTA) with certain monomers to provide said polymers. The polymers incorporating the chain transfer agents can be homopolymers, or made with additional monomers to provide copolymers. These polymers/copolymers are then converted into photoresist compositions for use as such.

Abstract: A fastener for use for attaching metal parts has a socket member and a stud member slidably and fixedly received therein. A flair portion on the socket member expands when abutted by a camming portion on the stud member to move the fastener between unlocked and locked positions. The head of the stud member includes a beveled edge which complementarily fits against a bevel abutment within the socket head. The bevel abutment extracts the stud member from the locked position by turning the stud member in either axial direction to ramp the stud member out of the socket member.
