  • Patent number: 7201378
Abstract: A primary technical goal of this strip brush seal device is to prevent friction of a lifting portion of a seal portion against the circumference of a rotary shaft and to improve the seal capability thereof. In the strip brush seal device, each seal strip in a seal portion forms a stoppage portion in the radially outward portion thereof and a lifting strip in the radially inward portion thereof wherein the lifting strip is inflected toward the rotational direction of the rotary shaft at a second angle (?) to the tangential direction of the circumference of the rotary shaft and the second angle (?) is in the range of from 0 to 40 degrees.

  • Patent number: 7128323
Abstract: Primary objective of the present invention is to provide a seal device wherein the seal surfaces of the device are always brought into close contact against the side walls of the mounting slot regardless of fluid conditions. The seal device has two seal portions located to both sides of a bight shaped elastic portion which has a “U”-shaped cross section wherein the respective seal portions have a first side portion and a second side portion. The second side portions of the seal portions abut against each other in a symmetric manner in order to form a “W”-shaped seal body element. The end portions of the both second side portions of the seal body element are joined and seal surfaces are defined on the outer side surfaces of the both first side portions.

  • Patent number: 6874787
Abstract: The present invention relates to a brush seal device for shutting off a gap between splitting surfaces so as to prevent sealed fluid from leaking out from the gap. Each of the splitting surfaces is composed of splitting direction-extending surfaces that extend in such a direction as to split split-body parts and a longitudinal surface that extends in the longitudinal direction of the split-body parts and that forms a step-like surface interposed between the splitting direction-extending surfaces. Shutoff means for sealing the gap between the splitting direction-extending surfaces so as to prevent leakage of sealed fluid is provided in the gap between the splitting direction-extending surfaces that are combined with each other.

  • Patent number: 6769698
Abstract: The object of this invention is to provide a structure of seal ring, and seal structure using the seal ring for flange joints of composite tanks and pipes, that prevents seal surface variations due to differences in thermal contraction between the seal ring and the tank/the flange joint, etc., that improves the resilience of the seal, and that prevents gas leakage due to poor sealing, in order to achieve the stable sealing. The seal ring fits into a ring groove formed in a sealed unit such as a tank unit or a flange joint to provide a tight seal to contain fluids. The heart-shaped seal ring has three curved surface areas that smoothly flow together, comprised of a first curved seal surface which contacts the formed surface of the ring groove, a second curved seal surface which contacts the seal surface of a second member (e.g. manhole cover), and a projecting curved surface on the opposite side.

  • Patent number: 6739592
Abstract: A brush seal device is mounted to one of two parts that move relative to each other with a gap therebetween, and seals the gap between the parts. Even when a brush seal abuts on the other part, it is deformed accordingly. As a result, wear of the brush seal is prevented. The brush seal device includes: a brush seal formed from bristles arranged into a wall shape, and including an attachment portion formed by connecting the bristles together at one end, and a free end face facing an opposing surface of the other part; a back plate connected to the attachment portion of the brush seal, and including a support surface for supporting a side surface of the brush seal; and a retaining plate for retaining the attachment portion of the brush seal between the retaining plate and the back plate. The support surface of the back plate and an opposing surface of the brush seal are disposed at a distance from each other. The bristle of the brush seal has a diameter of 0.15 mm to 0.008 mm.

  • Patent number: 6655692
Abstract: A brush seal device of the present invention has a holding portion and a brush having a plurality of bristles. The holding portion is held by one part and is in the shape of a sealing plate. One end portion of the brush is connected with the holding portion. A free end portion of the brush is disposed in parallel with the holding portion and protrudes therefrom so as to seal a gap between itself and the other part to which the brush is opposed. An elastic portion holds the side of the free end portion of the brush in light touch with a holding surface of the holding portion. The elastic portion also performs a sealing function so as to prevent sealed fluid from entering the side of the mounting portion of the brush.

  • Publication number: 20020130469
Abstract: The present invention aims at making it possible to removably take out only a brush seal from a brush seal device if the brush seal has been abraded or if there occurs a change in design specification, and to attach another brush seal to the brush seal device precisely. Amounting portion is formed in bristles. The mounting portion is removably attached to a pair of connecting portions of a combinational unit, to which the mounting portion is securely fitted. The combinational unit is fastened by a removable coupling means. Thus, the combinational unit and the brush seal are assembled in a removable manner.

  • Publication number: 20020050685
Abstract: A brush seal device for sealing a gap of varying dimensions between two parts moving relatively, has a brush (2) formed by a number of thin bristles (3) arranged in a wall-like form, one end secured to one part in parallel with a retaining portion (4) that supports the brush (2), and a seal portion at the other end facing the other part for sealing the gap. When the dimensions of the gap change and an inner diameter edge portion of the seal portion contacts the other part, a lubricant (7, 8) interposed between each contact surface of the brush (2) and/or the retaining portion (4) makes a friction coefficient of the contact surface of the brush (2) small, so as to facilitate deflection of the brush (2) when the other part contacts the brush (2).

Further, an edge portion at the periphery of the pressure balancing groove (6) is formed into a gently slanted surface so that it does not wear on the brush (2).
