  • Publication number: 20120112416
Abstract: The invention refers to a mechanical seal, comprising at least one pair of interacting seal rings (3, 4), one of which is provided for a common rotation with a rotating component (2), and the other of which is retained at a stationary component (20) in a torque-proof manner against a rotation with the rotating component (2), and a monitoring device (6) for monitoring an operating state of the mechanical seal. The invention stands out in that the monitoring device (6) comprises a beam (7) including a sensor element for detecting a bending of the beam, in particular a strain gauge, wherein the beam (7) is arranged in a recess (14) in the stationary seal ring (4) and the beam (7) contacts a wall (14a) of the recess (14) in the stationary seal ring with a predetermined pretension, and further comprises an adjusting device in order to adjust a position of the beam (7) with respect to the recess (14).

  • Patent number: 8128096
Abstract: A mechanical seal assembly to be used in sterile applications comprises a pair of co-operating seal rings (2, 5), one of which is held rotationally fixed and the other of which is provided to rotate together with a rotating component, wherein one of the seal rings is axially movable and biased by a spring against the other seal ring, a retainer housing (1) at which the rotating seal ring is retained near an axial end thereof, a mounting member (12) which may be mounted rotationally fixed at the rotating member, and a rotatory force transmission device (10) for transmitting a rotatory force between the mounting member and the retainer housing. The rotatory force transmission device (10) comprises a transmitting ring (15) retained in press-fit at the retainer housing (1) near the other axial end thereof, the transmitting ring including at least one protruding engagement member (20) engaging in an aligned recess in the mounting member.

  • Patent number: 7909336
Abstract: An arrangement of a shaft with a slip-ring seal mounted thereon is disclosed. The slip-ring seal (3) comprises a pair of cooperating slip rings (4,5), the sealing faces of which define a sealing gap (6) between them. One of the slip rings is mounted on the shaft (2) with torque transmission from a drive element (9) mounted on the shaft, whilst the other slip ring is provided for fixed mounting on a stationary component. The arrangement is characterised in that the drive element (9) comprises a tubular drive housing (11), extending over the external circumference of the slip ring (4) with a radial gap (12) and a passage (13) for introduction of a flow medium is provided, opening out at one end in a chamber (A), defined by the drive housing (11), which drains out through the radial gap (12), whereby the radial gap forms a flow path for the flow medium which terminates at or near the sealing gap (6).

  • Patent number: 7862046
Abstract: A mechanical seal assembly including at least one pair of co-operating seal rings, one of which is provided for common rotation with a rotating component and the other of which is provided rotationally fixed at a stationary component. One of the seal rings is axially movable and axially biased with a biasing force against the other seal ring, the biasing force being transmittable through a force transmitting ring to the respective seal ring, in order to bias facing sliding surfaces of the seal rings, between which a sealing gap is formed during operation, in a mutual sealing engagement, and a secondary sealing assembly provided at the force transmitting ring for sealing the axially movable seal ring with respect to at least one circumferential guiding surface of a guiding component guiding the movement of the seal ring and the force transmitting ring.
