    Abstract: A ratcheting tool includes a body and a gear disposed in the body. The gear defines a plurality of teeth on a circumference of the gear so that the gear teeth define a first arc having a first radius. A pawl is disposed in the body so that the pawl is movable laterally with respect to the gear between a first position, in which the pawl is disposed between the body and the gear so that the body transmits torque through the pawl in a first rotational direction, and a second position, in which the pawl is disposed between the body and the gear so that the body transmits torque through the pawl in an opposite rotational direction. The pawl defines a plurality of teeth facing the gear, and the pawl teeth define a second arc having a second radius larger than the first radius.

    Abstract: A single-direction operation type ratchet wrench structure includes an elongated handle, and an identification portion. The handle has one end provided with a socket end, and a ratchet wheel is mounted in the socket end and operated in one direction only. The identification portion is mounted on the handle, and mates with a rotation direction of the ratchet wheel for locking or unlocking a workpiece, so that when a user holds the handle of the single-direction operation type ratchet wrench structure, he may directly identify the correct rotation direction for locking or unlocking the workpiece by the location and the direction of the identification portion on the handle, thereby facilitating the user operating the single-direction operation type ratchet wrench structure.

    Abstract: A universal joint to transmit force from a tool to a workpiece. A driver attachable to the tool has a spherical cavity. A plurality of inwardly facing protrusions are formed in the cavity. Each protrusion has a pair of conical sidewalls separated by an angled ramp. A driven socket has a sphere formed on one end. The sphere has a plurality of channels. The sphere is received in the spherical cavity in the driver and the protrusions in the cavity are received in the channels. The drive webs forming the channel engage the protrusions when the driver is angularly offset from the driven socket.

    Abstract: A reversing ratchet wrench especially suited for mass production and having few easily machinable parts. The pawl and driver are provided with overlapping covers which retain the pawl and protect the engaging teeth. The driver cover is flush with the wrench head for added convenience, yet makes no contact because the driver is supported on a driver skirt. Hence, the wrench is highly impact resistant. A unique retaining clip for retaining the driver allows convenient replacement of the pawl cap/reversing lever without removal of the pawl. Likewise, the wrench can be completely disassembled without special tools, thereby facilitating point-of-sale repair.

    Abstract: A reversible ratchet wrench has a handle portion and a head portion. The head portion includes a drive member having teeth thereon and a pawl having teeth which selectively engage the teeth on the drive member. The head portion has two partially overlapping cavities formed therein, the cavities being formed from the bottom of the head portion. The top of the head portion has two spaced-apart openings formed therein, each opening communicating respectively with one of the two cavities. The drive member is disposed in the larger cavity and the pawl is disposed in the smaller cavity. A one-piece lever means is provided having a non-cylindrical stem depending therefrom. The stem is received in a cooperating bore in the pawl. A multi-sided shelf is formed on the stem, the shelf being received in a cooperating cavity in the top of the pawl. The top of the head portion of the wrench is received between the top portion of the lever means and the shelf on the stem.

    Abstract: An adjustable brake spring pliers that are readily adjustable for use on either shoe of both old and new types of brake drums of varying sizes. The pliers has a pair of pivotally joined arms. One of the arms has a flat portion formed thereon that minimizes the potential of damage to the brake lining contacted by the flat portion during use of the pliers. The other of the arms includes a pair of pivotal tips formed thereon. Each of the tips have a respective notch formed th erein for engaging a spring to be installed/removed thereby. The tips may be readily selectively adjusted, permitting the pliers to be utilized on brake drums of varying sizes and types.

The fastener has plurality of faces that join each other at respective edges. The fastener also has radii that are measured from the center of the fastener to the respective faces thereof, a first radius from the center of the fastener which is normal to the face of the fastener; a second radius at an angle of approximately 15.degree. from the first radius and a third radius at an angle of approximately 15.degree. plus a flank angle from the first radius. The coupling element includes a plurality of adjoining surfaces. Each surface includes an adjoining flank section at each end thereof that is angled with respect to the surface in a direction away from the corner of the fastener, the angle being the flank angle.

    Abstract: A strap wrench for engaging a workpiece. The strap wrench includes a housing having a first side, a second side, a top and a bottom. A cam means is pivotally mounted in the housing. The cam means has a first end and a second end and, when pivoted, the first end and the second end of the cam means approach the respective sides of the housing. A flexible strap means having a first end, a second end and an intermediate portion is provided. The ends of the strap means are received in the housing, passing through the housing to form a loop in the intermediate portion of the strap means. The cam means may be pivoted to engage the strap means between the respective ends of the cam means and the respective sides of the housing such that the loop in the strap is securely about the workpiece. An opening through the cam means communicates with openings in the top and in the bottom of the housing.

    Abstract: A handle for a hand tool having a tool portion to which the handle is secured rearwardly thereof. The handle has a substantially polygonally shaped cross-section to prevent rolling of the tool. An elastomeric sleeve having ribs thereon is disposed over the handle to facilitate gripping thereof even in greasy and oily conditions. A plurality of pockets are formed in the rearward portion of the handle opposite to the tool portion. An end cap having a plurality of complementary studs is disposed over and secured to the rearward portion of the handle so that each stud is received in and secured in a respective pocket. The end cap is color-coded and/or otherwise provided with indicia means to facilitate user recognition and selection thereof. In another embodiment, the end cap is integral with handle portion.

    Abstract: A molded elastomeric sleeve is carried by the rearward portion of a wrench socket. The sleeve has size indicia molded directly thereon (and may also be color coded) thereby facilitating a quick and convenient identification and selection of the respective socket from a tool box or kit. Suitable knurls on the outer diameter of the sleeve facilitate a manual rotation of the socket for seating a nut or bolt, prior to torquing with a conventional ratchet wrench. The knurls also prevent the socket from rolling, if placed sideways on a flat surface. Preferably, the rearward portion of the socket has a reduced diameter, thereby forming an annular shoulder between the forward and rearward portions of the socket, and the sleeve abuts against the annular shoulder. In an alternate embodiment, the sleeve is keyed to the socket, preferably by a "double dee" configuration, to prevent slippage or relative rotation between the socket and sleeve.
