  • Patent number: 4213219
Abstract: A tensioning device for an inflatable structure which includes a deck area to provide a floor for the inflatable structure, an outer inflatable member providing the main flotation for the deck, the outer inflatable member extending around the outer periphery of the deck, and an inner inflatable member which is integrally connected to the deck to provide additional buoyancy to the central area of the deck but primarily to increase the tensioning of the deck of the inflatable structure since a portion of the material of the deck comprises a portion of the walls of the inflatable chamber of the inner inflatable member and as such inflation of the toroidal inner inflatable member causes the lower wall section thereof which itself is a portion of the deck itself to assume a downwardly facing convex arcuate configuration which increases the tension on the deck between the inner and outer inflatable members, the device may alternatively include valves for controlling the buoyancy and tensioning as well as a canopy a

  • Patent number: 4194247
Abstract: A ventilation system to be worn by an individual whenever cooling of the external surface of his body is required such as when wearing an industrial protective garment such as a rain suit which comprises a manifold for receiving ventilating gas and distributing the gas which includes an inlet in the manifold and an outlet from the manifold for receiving and distributing ventilating gas, the outlet is selectively connected to at least one gas distribution conduit which is formed of flexible fabric material and extends over the surface of the body of the wearer, the gas distribution conduits include a plurality of orifices in the surface thereof to provide controlled distribution of the ventilating gas, the gas distribution conduits can be formed of a woven fabric material which is coated with a gas impervious elastometer such as butyl rubber or the like to prevent the exiting of gas from the gas distribution conduits except at the locations of the prechosen orifices, the system may include simply two conduits

  • Patent number: 4183101
Abstract: A replaceable visor which is particularly usable with the headgear of a protective garment which includes a transparent member held in place by the protective garment in front of the eyes of the wearer, the transparent member including an inner and outer frame member secured to the inner and outer side of the peripheral edge thereof to define therebetween a retaining channel to receive a bead which is fixedly secured to the hole in the garment designed to receive the visor, the bead may be formed by a cord which is secured to the periphery of the hole in the garment headgear and as such provides the bead which the retaining channel may grip to hold the replaceable visor in position, the bead may be attached to the protective material by a beading pocket formed by sewing of opposite width-wise edges of a binding tape to the edge of the protective material and holding the beading cord therein, holding of the beading within the retaining channel may be facilitated by including a retaining clip which biases the b
