Abstract: An orbital sander is provided having a number of novel features including a high speed permanent magnet DC motor having a relatively flat rpm versus torque curve. The sander includes an AC to DC power supply, a remotely located on/off switch operated by a switch actuator bar extending transversely through the housing enabling the operator to actuate the on/off switch by alternatively pushing opposed ends of the actuator bar. The orbital sander further includes a fan having non-uniformly spaced blades, eliminating the need for a conventional counterweight, and a dust outlet adapted to be alternatively connected to a dust canister or alternate size collector vacuum hoses.

Abstract: Screw guide is provided and includes a cylindrical member having a first end adapted to rotate a fastener and a second end adapted to receive torque from an external source and transfer the torque to the fastener, a stop ring engaged with the cylindrical member that is adjustable to control the movement of the fastener with respect to the screw guide. The screw guide may also include a sleeve that surrounds the cylindrical member and the stop ring and a stand off ring that is engaged with the cylindrical member.

Abstract: A shaft comprises an input portion and a tang. The tang has a first section, a second section, and a radial bore. The second section is disposed between the first section and the input portion along an axis. A radial cross section of the first section is less than a radial cross section of the second section. The radial bore is disposed on the first section.

Abstract: A saw such as a chop saw, a circular saw, a compound miter saw or a sliding compound miter saw having a rotatable saw blade is provided with a laser arbor alignment system. The laser arbor may include a power generator that generates power as the saw blade and the laser arbor are rotated by a spindle. The generator may include a stator comprising an electrical magnet or a permanent magnet mounted on a fixed portion of the saw. The other portion of the generator is a rotor comprising a coil that is rotated with the laser arbor to generate power for the laser. Power may also be provided to the laser by slip ring contacts from a stationary source to the laser arbor.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a collapsible stand for a bench-top power tool, and a portable power tool therefore. The stand includes a plurality of legs spaced about a central axis and pivotally interconnected by a plurality of cross members. Each leg has an upper end for supporting the power tool and a lower end for contacting an underlying support surface in an expanded position of the stand. The stand may be collapsed wherein the legs and cross members collectively converge toward the central axis as the legs and cross members each translate towards an orientation that is parallel to the central axis.
