Abstract: A backing plate that removably attaches a sponge to a mop head includes a top surface, that removably attaches to the mop head, and a bottom surface, to which the sponge is attached. At least one male attachment member is located on the first edge of the top surface of the backing plate, for removable attachment to a corresponding female member on the mop head. At least one female attachment member is located on a second edge of the top surface of the backing plate, for removable attachment to a corresponding male member on the mop head. In the preferred embodiment, each male attachment member on the backing plate includes a lip and each female attachment member on the backing plate includes a C-shaped member.

Abstract: A mop for cleaning a floor includes a handle. A mop head is attached to the distal end of the handle. A sponge having a floor contact surface is removably attached to the mop head. A squeegee, having a floor wiping surface, is formed integral with a front surface of the mop head. The mop also includes a mechanism for wringing the sponge, coupled to the mop head.

Abstract: The invention features a floor mop that includes a mop handle and a mop head assembly attached to the handle. A sponge and wiper are positioned on the mop head assembly such that the handle is positioned at a first rearward-facing acute angle relative to the floor while a working surface of the sponge engages the floor. The sponge and wiper are also positioned such that the mop handle is positioned at a second rearward-facing acute angle relative to the floor while a working end of the wiper engages the floor.

Abstract: In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a mop is disclosed, comprising a handle, a mop head and a wringing grip slidably and rotatably mounted on the handle. The mop head is coupled between the wringing grip and the handle such that upon rotation of the wringing grip relative to the handle, the mop head is wrung. The wringing grip includes an element for engaging the handle when the wringing grip is compressed against the handle to facilitate wringing of the mop head by inhibiting the wringing grip from rotating relative to the handle. The engaging element comprises at least one protrusion which extends inwardly from the wringing grip toward the handle, and the at least one protrusion comprises an insert which is located within at least one opening in the wringing grip.

Abstract: A mop, comprising a handle, a wringing grip slidably mounted on the handle and a mop head mounted between the handle and the wringing grip, such that when the wringing grip is slid toward a distal end of the handle, the mop head is stretched between the proximal end of the handle and the wringing grip, the wringing grip being compressible against said handle so as to facilitate repeated twisting of the handle relative to the wringing grip by inhibiting the handle from untwisting after each twist of the handle.
