  • Publication number: 20190364848
Abstract: A horse boot comprises a shell with front and lateral sidewalls. The sole has a longitudinal slot and an open rear end for access to the slot. The slot may be open or closed. A heel support includes a bottom plate for slidable engagement with the slot at a desired length position. Straps wrap around the hoof and connect the heel support to the shell of the boot. The heel support comprises a back plate and a heel cradle slidably coupled to the back plate for vertical adjustment. Straps extend forward attached to the front portion of the shell. In another embodiment a heel cradle structure includes bands fastened to the rear of the shell, thereby defining bulb retaining openings. A strap wrapped around the hoof is attached to the bands. The boot is fitted adjusting length and height to optimize the way it is fastened to the hoof.

  • Patent number: 10342226
Abstract: A heel counter inserted in a horse boot connects the heel of the hoof to the front of the upper of the boot with straps folded and secured over the upper. As a result, the hoof cannot slide backward as it moves within the boot during use, thereby avoiding breakover shift. Hook and loop fasteners are used to secure wrapping sections of the upper to each other and the heel counter straps to the wrapping sections.

  • Publication number: 20150101833
Abstract: A horse boot includes a shell for the hoof and a gaiter for the pastern. The shell has a sole, an upper, a tongue, and an elastic component for tightening the upper and the tongue around the hoof of the horse. The gaiter is releasably attached to the upper so as to extend around the rear of the shell and is wrapped around the pastern of the horse immediately above the hoof's front hairline and below the fetlock to function as a barrier against the entry of debris into the shell. The gaiter provides an additional anchor to retain the shell in place under extreme conditions of use. The releasable connection to the shell allows replacement of the gaiter when worn out.

  • Publication number: 20140231100
Abstract: A horse shoe has an upper with independent side walls that conform to the shape of the hoof. The upper includes a toe clip, two side tabs in the front half and two side walls in the rear half of the shoe, preferably all integral with a polymeric horseshoe with heel portions defining a gap. A cantilevered resilient bridge connects the heel portions, thus providing a spring-like structure tying the heel portions together. The top surface of the horseshoe has a grid of interconnected recesses and the upper has lateral perforations adapted to receive glue material. The shoe is fitted to the hoof by lining the surfaces of the upper and the horseshoe with glue and holding the shoe in place while the glue hardens, thereby securing the shoe to the hoof. Alternatively, the shoe is nailed on the hoof like a conventional horseshoe after removing the side walls.

  • Publication number: 20140231101
Abstract: A horse boot has an upper that includes substantially independent side walls that may be flexed inward or outward as needed to conform to the shape of the hoof to which the boot is fitted. The upper has no front portion and is preferably integral with a polymeric horseshoe with free heel ends defining a gap. A cantilevered resilient frog support connects the heel ends of the horseshoe, thus providing a spring-like structure tying the heel ends together. The interior surface of the horseshoe has a grid of interconnected recesses and the upper has lateral perforations adapted to receive glue material. The boot is fitted to the hoof by lining the surfaces of the upper and the horseshoe with glue and holding the boot in place while the glue hardens, thereby securing the boot to the hoof. The entire fitting process may be carried out in a few minutes and the boot remains in place essentially without maintenance.

  • Patent number: 8413412
Abstract: A horse boot (10) includes a shell (12) and a gaiter (22). The shell has a sole (14) and an upper (16) with a vertical slit (18). The gaiter (22) is releasably attached to the heel of the upper and is wrapped around the pastern (P) above the hoof's hairline (C) and below the fetlock to anchor the shell to the pastern and function as a barrier against debris. The gaiter includes a portion of two-way stretch material (60) that makes it possible to fold it out of the way for ease of installation. The process is further facilitated by the slit (18) that allows spreading of the shell. By shaping the upper (16) so that it presses against the hoof (H), the boot is advantageously held in place using only the gaiter anchored to the heel of the boot and strapped to the pastern of the horse.

  • Patent number: 8151546
Abstract: A horse boot includes the combination of an inner liner (10 and 10?) and an outer shell (12). The liner is adapted to wrap around the front and lateral surfaces of the hoof of the horse, while the shell includes an upper (16) designed to conform with the exterior surface of the liner for attachment to it. The shell is fastened to the liner by some detachable means, such as nuts (22) and bolts (20), and the liner/shell assembly is glued to the hoof. The shell may then be removed at will to allow the hoof to be barefoot and may be re-installed to produce a boot in place when desired.

  • Patent number: 8151545
Abstract: A horse boot has a sole that includes a dome portion designed to conform to the frog and sole of a horse's hoof when no pressure is exerted on it. The dome provides a support surface for the frog and hoof sole when the boot is off the ground and it resiliently deforms downward, thereby allowing the frog and hoof sole to deform naturally, when the boot presses against the ground. As a result, the hoof's frog and sole are always supported in resilient manner while allowed to move as needed for their natural function. The pressure exerted by the ground against the edges of the sole of the boot and the simultaneous counter-pressure exerted by the hoof cause the dome in the boot's sole to flatten, thereby slightly increasing its size to accommodate the natural deformation of the hoof.

Abstract: A horse boot has an upper that includes substantially independent side walls that may be flexed inward or outward as needed to conform to the shape of the hoof to which the boot is fitted. The upper also includes a short rear lip projecting backward at an approximate 45-degree angle to facilitate entry while still providing a ridge to enclose the back bottom portion of the hoof. The inside of the boot is lined with bonding material along the interior surface of the upper. The boot is fitted to the hoof and held in place while the bonding material hardens, thereby securing the boot to the hoof. The entire fitting process may be carried out in less than two minutes.
